How long does it take for lactulose to work?

one of the DCs is constipated, and filling up with fibre hasn't helped.

Next step, a depth charge with lactulose - but how long does it take to work? Ideally I'd want it all to start moving at home not school. Any advice on timing of dose?

Many thanks

Thanks!

I've had a google and found an old thread here, and advice on netdoctors (which I think is reliable) both of which say it can take up to 48 hours and is very gentle as it's a softener (not an expeller IYSWIM).

So I think I'll give it tonight, and if nothing has moved by the weekend I'll go to the pharmacist then, as advised above. Thanks!
