Ive just had my left ovary removed on monday through keyhole surgery due to a large complex cyst. The surgery was slightly complicated so I am very bruised to say the least but glad its over and I can be at home resting.

The thing is, since monday I have been so emotional one minute , stressed the next etc and I was wondering if this was just recovery from the surgery or if my hormones could be playing up. The surgeons didnt say much, and neither did the nurses. The only follow up I have is to go see my GP for a sick note for work as the doctor wasn't on the ward at the time i was discharged.

Is this what I have to look forward to now :( feeling depressed, fed up and emotional, or will things get better?

It'll get better. Your other ovary will start to ovulate every month (it might have been anyway if the one they took out had become completely replaced by cyst).

There's a fairly well recognised link between being postoperative and mild depressive symptoms - not massively published but definitely recognised in the trade. There can also be a bit of grief especially after gynae surgery, however necessary it was and happy you were to have it done.

Keep taking it easy, make sure you are signed off for long enough for you.

Thankyou for that. I do suffer from mild depression but this week, it has just bben awful. I am more than happy to have had the ovary removed which is why I couldnt understand feeling like this.

I will definately take it easy, and Dh is making sure I do!
