willie's problem...

tostaky · 05/11/2011 21:45

My son who is about to turn 3 says that he has pain in his willie (willy? sp?) not when peeing. he does complain after he pees though
DH has been circumcised so he doesnt have a clue.
i pulled back the foreskin and indeed it is a bit red around the little bit of skin that hold the willie to the foreskin; i have washed it 3 times today (am, lunch, eve) with soap and tonight in bed he was complaining but i didnt wash as im scared to make things worse.

of course i will go to the gp on monday but my son is not the easiest kid in the world and theres no way he will let the doctor have a look...

is it likely to be thrush? i took him swimming earlier this week do you think he got it from there?

don't wash it! esp not with soap.

take him to the GP for sure and see what s/he says.

with thrush I think you'd get some itchiness and some discharge, not just pain

KatharineClifton · 05/11/2011 21:54

The word you are reaching for is penis.

tostaky · 05/11/2011 22:11

thanks katharine, i'll used that word when he hits puberty... for now it doesnt looks like a penis, more like a very cute little thing

yesterday - no soap? my dad (not circumcised) told me to do that!!
no discharge, then again i wouldnt know what it would look like or how much of discharge i should be looking for... white/yellow stain in pants? white
/yellow stuff on his willie?

I bet you're a real laugh at parties KatharineClifton Hmm

winnybella · 05/11/2011 22:22

Katharine- you're way out of line here. Op can call it what she likes.

winnybella · 05/11/2011 22:27

OP- it could be balanitis, he would need some ABs or steroid cream, depending on the cause.

thisisyesterday · 05/11/2011 22:27

get a grip katharine! it really doesn't matter if the OP calls it a willy does it

tostaky, def no soap, it can irritate the skin more as it's all so sensitive down there. willys are basically self-cleaning (like vaginas) although a rinse with plain water isn't going to hurt.

is he complaining of pain all the time or just occasionally?

KatharineClifton · 05/11/2011 22:35

It's actually important to teach children the proper names of parts of their bodies. Not using the word penis until adolescence sounds pathetic to me. If that is out of order, then so be it.

Just a flavour of a document about child safety:

'Teach children proper names for all body parts, including names such as genitals, penis, vagina, and private parts.' www.mccarehouse.net/Child-Sexual-Behavior.pdf

Take the child to the doctor on Monday and this from a 3 year old - 'no way he will let the doctor have a look' is crap. Be an adult. Be a parent.

Savonarola · 05/11/2011 22:37

Do you also teach your children to say defecate and urinate rather than poo and pee?

OP: as you're concerned, I suggest you take him to the doctor and get proper advice.

hiddenhome · 05/11/2011 22:42

Do you also ask your dh to "manually stimulate your clitoris" whilst in the throws of passion? Hmm

The vast majority of normal families have pet names for their private parts.

winnybella · 05/11/2011 22:43

What is out of order, Katharine, is you being very rude to the OP for no good reason.

He he Savonarola: 'Poppy, would you please make an attempt at defecation before we go out?' Hmm

winnybella · 05/11/2011 22:43

Grin hidden home

thisisyesterday · 05/11/2011 22:47

katherine you sound slightly deranged

hiddenhome · 05/11/2011 22:49

"Oh, please gently caress my metacarpels and kiss me on my labium inferius oris" Grin

Doesn't have quite the same ring does it? Hmm

hiddenhome · 05/11/2011 22:53

Anyway, give the willy a wash with warm water no soaps or detergents. If it continues to be red/sore see the gp for some cream. They can become sore and infected, but most of the time it's just some local irritation which resolves by itself. I have two boys who've had this problem in the past and it usually goes away by itself. Don't try to retract the foreskin as this can cause soreness in itself.

"not tonight, I'm experiencing a mild cephalgia across my cranium"

winnybella · 05/11/2011 23:00

he hee

'Oh, I love it when you caress my mammary glands'

crazynanna · 05/11/2011 23:00

I would take the male with his phallic symbol to the GP Hmm

Seriously...has he been playing with it? Agree it may be balanitis. Give him a bit of calpol to ease the pain...avoid washing with anything.
Common problem. Smile

hiddenhome · 05/11/2011 23:01

Grin @ you two

Lisatheonewhoeatsdrytoast · 05/11/2011 23:04

My DS had something similar about 6 months ago, turned out to be Balanitis, he got some antibiotics and it was fine, tho his was slightly swollen, red and a bit odd looking, but it went away within a few days, fairly common GP said :)

Moodykat · 05/11/2011 23:07

Things like this scare me about having 2 DS! Is there a book on willy issues for mums?!
Willy willy WILLY! Wink

I did not know about balanitis and yes, he keeps playing with it in the bath (as most little boys do!)
