very bad lower back pain. I haven't fallen, lifted anythin, etc. Woke up yesterday with it and it's got worse. Only on right side.
Currently flat on bed. If I bend my right knee to my chest and then straighten it back there is a big clunk from my pelvis or lower back on the right side. I can feel something clunk and hear it.

not UTI-ish at all?

have you got any paracetemol and/or codeine?

and take the diclofenac absolutely regularly, without fail for a few days.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/11/2011 18:20

Not uti, ish. It's worse when I move my leg so think it must be muscular. It's just the audible clunking ghats worrying me. I've got codeine as well. Thanks.

hmmm. i suppose a spasming muscle could clunk - my shoulder did when it was whiplashed (caraccident).

have you got plenty pf people to wait on you?

do you think it needs looking at sooner rather than later? could you face a walk-in-centre on a saturday evening?

VivaLeBeaver · 05/11/2011 18:43

I think I can wait to be seen. Dh and dd are ruining round after me. I'm meant to be driving 2 hours to see my brother tomorrow. My mum could drive but not sure I can sit down that long even in the passenger seat.

god no, sitting is horrible for bad backs. lie or stand.

VivaLeBeaver · 05/11/2011 18:57

It's reassuring it could be muscle or ligaments. I was beginning to worry my hip was starting to dislocate!

herbie is right - more things than bones go clunk! Sounds like it might be sciatica/trapped nerve-type stuff. I get it from a permanent lower back problem quite often.

Experiment with some really careful stretching - find out what is comfortable and what is not. If it's OK, keep going a little further.

What works best for me is lying down and then bending each knee in turn. If that's OK, try doing the same and moving the bended knee to the opposite side very gradually. Lousy description, but you are just trying to stretch everything very slowly. Basic Pilates really.

Hope you get it sorted soon.
