Normal Coil experiences (NOT Mirena/hormones)

Artificial hormones completely screw me up I have realised. I have been on the pill for years, and the only time I have felt normal is when I have come off it to fall pregnant.

Sooo... considering a coil after the baby is born, but just wanted to hear some experiences. Give me good and bad so I can have some sort of balance .

Super-fertile so don't trust just basic condoms in the slightest.

I have had a coil for four and a half years now and excepting childbirth having it put in was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. At first my periods were a lot heavier adn much more painful, but that settled down. Now it's fantastic, never have to think about it, forward planning not needed, just don't wnat to have to have it out which I will sometime next year.

I had to have my coil removed as despite the nurse and doctor looking and saying the thread they'd left was a short as they could possibly do it DH still got maimed everytime we got jiggy! maybe that says more about him though?

Was very easy and painless to put in and to take out.

Personally I would highly reccomend them. Extremely reliable and uncomplicated, barely even think about it. Had one for 5 years

I've had mine for just over 2 years. Not painful going in IME. Had to have the threads cut once cos DH got jagged to begin with. Periods were very heavy for the first 4-5 months but fine now.

So far, so good

I don't think I'll mention the the maiming to DH... I've had a big variation in periods over the years, so heavy and hurting for a while isn't all that much of an issue.

I love mine too and wish I'd had it fitted soon after ds was born.

The doctor who did mine left the strings quite long and then sort of curled them around so that they wouldn't attack dh.

I found the insertion was fine, go somewhere were they do millions of them like family planning.

I'm the only person I know who had one before they had children - had it for 7 years ( forgot I was supposed to get it changed). Absolutely no probs.

I had a new one fitted at my six week check after DD2 was born - great time to get it done as cervix is still a bit relaxed. Not painful, periods were actually lighter with than without it. Definitely going to have another one in after this baby..,.

I've had one for a year now since I had DS. I didn't find the insertion painful, even though DS was a CS (supposed to be less painful if you've had a vaginal delivery). Very heavy periods initially, but not painful. Less heavy now but I still have one very heavy day each cycle. No problem with the threads at all.
