Bizarre symptoms after I eat anythign .. just feel generally ill .. dizzy, nauseous .. happens about 5 mins after and lasts about 20 minutes .. its worse in the evening

wondering if a detox programme would help and if you could recommend a good one?

Have you had any gastro problems before Twiglett?

Just wondering because these are symptoms I have if I don't take regular stomach medication (lanzoprazole). I had a stomach ulcer a few years ago, but have been left with acid reflux and gastritis which you can develop without having had an ulcer.

Is it worse after fatty food?

I'd be inclined to visit the gp.

had gastritis with last pregnancy and after for a few months and sucked down gaviscon

don't get any pain just feel generally ill ... had 4 courses of antibiotics about 2 months ago .. do you think it might be connected to that?

Not sure twig - you were very ill weren't you and lost a lot of weight. Then I presume recently you've had the same rich Christmas diet as the rest of and perhaps your body is rebelling a bit - so your idea of a detox may be a good idea anyway.

I'd still see the doctor though - I kind of soldiered along with the symptoms but they gradually got worse and then I had some delightful projectile vomiting and a trip to hospital in an ambulance.

On the detox front - 3 days of herbal teas, veggie juices (if you have a juicer), plenty of fruit, plus small meals (no red meat) and no refined foods (especially avoid stuff made from white flour) is simple to follow.

yeah I did lose a lot of weight .. which I put back on just as quickly dagnammit

any particular herbal teas .. yuck to herbal .. I like PG tips

have made doc's appt for this pm to rule out anything else .. thanks .. wouldn't have gone because I hate them but might as well I suppose

Ok, well Japanese green tea is good - I like it because it tastes more tea like!

Peppermint also good.

There's one with a funny name which escapes me which tastes really pleasant - I will post what it is when I've remembered it!

I hate all the strawberry and blackcurrant flavour ones - all too strong, something delicate is nice.

(sorry twiglett for hijack) but puff, I get those exact symptoms too. Around 10 years ago I was diagnosed with a hyperacidic stomach (basically just too much acid) and was put on omaprazole for a couple of months. This did the trick then. When I went to see the GP about this (because I'm sure I have the same problem now) they were very dismissive. Was it the GP who prescribed you the lanzoprazole?

Twiglett, you can get something called Zanprol over the counter now. It is a small dose of omaprazole (may be spelt differently) which stops your stomach over producing acid. I imagine though that the antibiotics have buggered up your normal stomach functioning and maybe some probiotics would be in order.

thanks have been taking multivitamins with a probiotic for about 3 weeks now .. no joy yet but DH says my hair is very shiny

detox ideas

The tea I was thinking of is called honeybush - the most pleasant tasting I've come across. Chamomile also good in the evening.

Foxinsocks - I still see a gastro consultant every 6 months as a hospital outpatient - she prescribed the lanzoprasole as a long term measure.

foxinsocks · 30/12/2005 19:34

how'd it go?

EliBeentoSantasGrotto · 30/12/2005 22:34

Honeybush sounds yum, is it? Twiglett, I had dreadful reflux during pregnancy and it came back later - turned out to be a hiatus hernia. It comes and goes now, but rich food is a problem and I've been having same symptoms, plus occasional stomach pain/nausea at night, since hitting the Xmas choccies big time... I was on Omeprazole and Lansaprazole at various points, now take a nightly Zantac which does the trick. Hope you feel better soon.

doctor thought I was just barking mad .. kept looking at me and grinning saying she had no idea what it could be
