PCOS - come and share!

My GP has told me I may have polycystic ovary syndrome. Symptoms are persistent spots on chin and jawline, increased dark hair on chin, jawline, tummy and breasts, history of very irregular periods. I'm booked in for loads of hormonal blood tests and an ultrasound to look at my ovaries.

Any advice welcome - if my tests indicate that I do indeed have PCOS, what treatment would I be offered? What sort of effect can this have on your health? I know it can negatively affect fertility - we're not planning to have any children so that's not an issue luckily Smile

Thanks all!

I had my ovaries lasered to TTC then had some clomid. It didn't work and I got pregnant spontaneously.
DD is now 10.5 and I haven't had a period for about two years. I do still have the spots and spectacular 'tache.
From what I understand, you are at greater risk of diabetes and heart disease because of increased levels of testosterone and the inablility to process glucose as well as you should.
There is an organisation called Verity, try googling them.

Thanks rips. I have a family history of diabetes and heart disease as it is! Will see how the blood tests go and will look at Verity.
