OK, someone tell me this level of pain is normal with a tooth extraction????

Large back molar extracted about 3 hours ago. Dentist told me to take some ordinary ibuprofen if I was in pain.

It is AGONY and I've realised I can't take ibuprofen because I had a stomach ulcer a few years ago.

Someone calm me down as the pain is getting unbearable - I need to know it's going to subside at some point today.

I had an upper molar extraction about 3 years ago and I can't recall really bad pain afterwards sorry! Maybe visit chemist and ask what you can have instead of ibuprofen? Hope it improves soon.

Puff...I can totally sympathise with you , i had a couple of molar teeth out a few weeks ago and it was agony, just be careful as not to dislodge the clot that forms over the gum, as somehow mine came away and i ended up with a really nasty infection to the bone, maybe this is what has happened?

Tbh i think tooth pain is FAR worse than giving birth...its really awful, maybe worth trying a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel and hold to your face?

Maybe try some extra strength paracetamol? They helped me in between ibuprofen, they were as strong as anyway.

try not to lean forward at all if you can help it -- made my jaw ache badly after i had my wisdom teeth out

arnica really helps after tooth extraction I've found

what is that good paracetemol and codeine they give yuo after you give birth? Paracodol? you'll need something, it sounds horrid. I'd go to the chemist and beg. Poor you xx

Keep an eye on it though as I was in agony after having mine out and ended up having an ulcer (is it that?) and I needed anti-biotics.

I totally sympathise. I had 4 wisdom teeth removed in September and I was in absolute agony. Turned out I'd developed dry sockets and I was prescribed extra strong painkillers by GP which totally knocked me out. Agree pain is far worse than child birth.

Get a prescription from your GP if it doesn't subside or the pain will drive you insane.

Got an appointment with my gp at 5.00pm.

The dentist is 30 miles away (closest I could get onto an NHS list) so I think my doctor's surgery took pity on me.

Jeez it is soooo bad.

I expected it with my wisdom tooth last year, but this has taken me by surprise.

Bloody hell I must have had it easy then! I however found child birth horrendous and was begging for an epidural by the time I reached all of, oh 3 cms I think!

dh had a version of Voltarol on prescription when he had wisdom teeth out. Hope you can get it sorted out quickly.

What I meant to add was your GP might give Solpadol which is paracetomal and codine and bloody marvellous!

The dentist said it was tricky because the tooth had become very brittle following unsuccessful root canal treatment and then a crown. So, she was pulling and tugging in different directions for quite a while.

Voltarol is brilliant but I can't take it because of my stomach.

I'm going to ask for whatever megawatt stuff they can give me!!!!!!!!!

Northerner...Yes that is what i had, dry sockets with both teeth i had removed. It had me crying like a baby, and i have a high pain threshold.

I had 4 dry sockets. I too was sobbing with the pain. It is horiffic.

I've also had the dry socket thing and its really painful.If you get it you need to go back to the dentist. Apparently its more likely if you smoke ( which i dont!)

Drugs - what about co-codamol, which i think is paracetemol and codeine and maybe you can buy OTC? After an op my GP prescribed Dihydrocodeine 30mg tablets which are really strong. the bottel said 1-2 tablets four times a day but i found one tablet four times a day gave great pain relief.

Be warned though, anything with codeine can make you constipated so you may need to change your diet or take soemthing IYKWIM.

Shoudl add i am only speaking from my experience and have no medical or other knwoledge whatsoever!!!!

Can sympathise, I have had dry socket and the pain is soooooo bad. Wonder if thats happened to you?? If it is then the dentist can fill it with crushed cloves. Sounds and tastes awful but bloody heck it works

I got dihyrocodeine. It's taken the edge off, but still pretty grim. Ho hum - it's the strongest painkiller apparently.

I'm a bit fed up with the dentist tbh for not warning me about the level of pain. There was a really bad abcess underneath the tooth which antibiotics hadn't shifted, so maybe this is why it is so bad .

Mongolian mistletoe - is it really crushed clothes? I had something like that, dentist just called it an antiseptic dressing, it looked like tobacco and truly was the most foul thing I have ever tasted. Yuk. But yet brought great releif.

Yes i had the same thing, but it was like a brown piece of gauze, they packed it in to the gum, was awful! yuk. only thing that helped me was antibiotics.I had one tooth out got the dry socket, then had another tooth out when 1st one had healed and got it again

Puff...it may be worth ringing your dentist today, as if it is dry socket it means you will have to suffer till Tues and you don't want that.As i just said the antibiotics shifted mine and you may well need them.
