Walking difficulty in 73-year old mother

my 73-year old mother has started to have difficulty walking. it happens when she wants to start walking, or stops then wants to restart or change direction. she can't get her legs to move for a few seconds so she shakes a bit while she's trying to get herself going. she feels no pain or discomfort. once she has started walking she is find and can keep going without problem. has anyone any experience of this and what the ailment and treatment might be?

thanks very much

Maureen, when I need to research medical papers I try the following website www.altmedicine.com which has various search engines. It's an alternative medicine site but the search facility brings up medical papers from all kinds of respected sources (non-alternative as well) which may help you for your Mum. For example, my beloved's breath got really garlicky and he wasn't taking any garlic tablets or eating any either and I just put in 'garlic breath' in the search engine and out came 'too much selenium' which is another tablet he takes. We totted up how much he was taking in other tablets and voila as they say in the movies! You have to register by accepting their terms on the site but I haven't had any stuff from them or advertising e-mails etc and I've been on it for years. Just a thought, good luck.
