fwiw, Fab, the worst thing about HA ime (self diagnosed Grin) is that the stress/anxiety can cause you to have symptoms which make you much, much more anxious- eg anxiety-palpitations-fear of heart disease- MORE anxiety- and round and round again

(my particular circle is anxiety-dizziness/fainty feelings/pressure in head-fear of brain tumour-more anxiety- WORSE symptoms)

RichTeaAreCrap · 28/10/2011 18:02

No probs at all Fab, I completely understand. No pressure whatsoever from me to pm me, but just wanted you to know that if you ever do feel like it you know you can.

brighthair · 28/10/2011 18:52

Have a look at nomorepanic.co.uk, especially the symptoms bit
I get breathless, chest pain, palpitations, feeling faint, feeling like there is a lump in my throat and I am choking. All very real symptoms, but all caused by anxiety
Medication and CBT have helped me control it, I understand how scary it is and it took me numerous a&e trips and ECG results to realise I was ok
Exercise helps me - it reminds me getting out of breath is good and nothing bad will happen

TheOriginalFAB · 28/10/2011 19:07

Legal stuff still going on.

I try not to think about things but I still get anxious.

I am trying really hard not to stress about the pain. DH is doing dinner and I plan on lots of cuddles with FABCat later. As long as she doesn't bite me!

What do you mean when you say 'legal stuff still going on'?

thestringcheesemassacre · 28/10/2011 19:36

I think not thinking about things is NOT the answer. Think about them with a mental health professional, deal with them, do whatever it takes and put them aside. They are impacting your life with such effect. Can you not see that?

TheOriginalFAB · 28/10/2011 19:49

I mean the legal stuff isn't finished.

I can but when I have tried to talk about it they haven't been able to help.

Oh Fab, you poor love.

You posted on my thread the other day (the health anxiety one where I got called a big fat glittery attention whore or similar Wink) Just wanted to say; you're not alone in feeling like this. It can feel lonely and like you're going mad. You're not. This morning I thought I was on the verge of having a full-on breakdown, honest, and I carted myself off to the doctor's. He gave me the option of different anti-depressants or beta blockers to stop the feelings of panic. I opted for the blockers. I will let you know how they work for me, the could be of use to you. Apparently they stop the physical anxiety symptoms.

PM me if you need to talk or just vent. :)

BleachBoys · 28/10/2011 19:58

So, the legal stuff that is always in the background - what is it and when will it have an outcome?

BupcakesandHaunting · 28/10/2011 19:59

Oops sorry, just realised that you don't think that you have HA so completely ignore my last post.

Blush
TheOriginalFAB · 28/10/2011 20:03

I have no idea when the legal stuff will be over.

Everyone else thinks I have HA.

I think I am getting pains due to stress but now I am not worrying there is something medical wrong iyswim.

Fab, if you read my thread from sunday (linked to on the thread that you posted on) you will see that I had EXACTLY what you are describing now...

Started off as a pain in my left shoulder blade, right at the bottom. I have been worrying about heart attacks recently anyway, I managed to convince myself that I was imminently going to have a heart attack or was having one. I sat at the top of my stairs, feeling freezing cold, clammy, heart thumping in chest. I went straight to A+E where they sent me straight through and wired me to an ECG. They could tell immediately I wasnt having a heart atatck or anything close to. They put me on a heart monitor and my heart rate was at 131 Shock so that made me even more anxious... But it was anxiety that started the palpitations in the first place. The doctor diagnosed me with pleurisy. I'm not convinced I had that. It was more than likely a pulled muscle/pain from bed-sharing with an ill 4 year old who takes up the entire bed! It has gone now, totally.

You are working yourself up, my love. Take it from one who knows. If you are genuinely worried, go to A+E. Don't worry about time-wasting if you think it could be something. Just being told that there is nothing up with your heart can be enough to calm you right down. When they told me my heart was fine on sunday, my heart rate went right down to 89.

I DO suffer with HA. Only realised it this week and have no problem admitting it. I'm not saying that you do or do not. But I definitely think you are winding yourself up here.

TheOriginalFAB · 28/10/2011 20:16

I felt cold as well. I need to find a way to not let the worry get to me. Holy grail.

It sounds a bit vague, shoulder pain.
The type of chest pain to worry about is severe pain across centre of chest crushing in nature and down left arm/
Or severe pain breathing in that doesn't go away.
Anything vague isn't usually too serious and if it is, it will develop and get serious to the point you will be ill and it will be obvious.

amimagic · 28/10/2011 20:21

I'm not sure of any back story but it really sounds to me like anxiety and panic attacks - it may not be health anxiety though. It sounds like you've had a lot of stress to deal with which would definitely spark it off if you're that way inclined.

My DH suffers with anxiety disorder and when it first started he thought he was dying the pain, breathlessness and palpitations were so bad.

what has helped him is CBT

BupcakesandHaunting · 28/10/2011 20:22

Cold is a sign of anxiety. So are palpitations. You might have given yourself an anxiety attack. Sit and sip some water slowly and eat something high-energy like nuts or dried fruit. Then relax and take deep breaths.

You are fine. :)

^ that is what I had. I was worried as before anxiety attacks have just brought pain and trouble breathing. Last night the pain was different and in more places.

amimagic · 28/10/2011 20:25

Sorry, posted to soon Blush

CBT to give him coping strategies - this did not deal with underlying reasons for the panic attacks - and propanolol (sp?) to slow his racing heart down.

It was very scary and defo not in the mind at all.

TheOriginalFAB · 28/10/2011 20:25

Thanks bupcakes Smile.

OP posts:
BupcakesandHaunting · 28/10/2011 20:27

Amimagic, I have been prescribed propanolol today (to calm me the eff down) does your husband find them helpful?

FAB, please look at the list of symptoms (physical) on the NHS website for geneal anxiety disorder. I bet almost every pain/twinge you feel can be attributed to GAD...

TheOriginalFAB · 28/10/2011 20:32

I have looked and before last night I was sure I was having anxiety attacks. It was only because of the extra pain and heart palpitations that made me worry it was something else.

OP posts:
amimagic · 28/10/2011 20:40

Bupcakes, yes they were crucial in slowing his racing heart down which is the main problem that causes the pain, breathlessness etc. They really helped. I hope they'll do the same for you.

FAB the pain during an anxiety attack can be absolutely crushing.

I've learned what an an absolute bitch GAD is over the last year or so, but also that you can beat it with your mind if that makes sense?

TheOriginalFAB · 28/10/2011 20:47

It does. I talk to myself a lot, and answerr myseld Hmm, so I think that would work for me.
