I haven't had this for a long time. I went for a smear and was greeted with the happy news that I have thrush. Have used a pessary and cream and am wandering around in a skirt and long socksas oppose to jeans or tights which i don't like.

I have tried to cut down on yeast i.e. bread, alcohol etc. Any tips please. i didn't even realise I had it. real nuisance and the smear test may not be accurate and it really hurt

natural yoghurt on the area, no knickers, tights etc, don't wash down there with anything scented or soaps, and do not be afraid to douse with cold water if needed!!!

get a zinc/B vits supplement, fungal infections tend to hang around if someone is zinc deficient

Use Lactacyd wash in the shower to prevent recurrences - I am a recurrent sufferer and this was recommended to me by a gynaecologist. I usually avoid like the plague anything in the fanjo-washing aisle of Boots, however I gave it a try and since using it regularly my episodes have almost disappeared. Apparently it works by rebalancing the pH. Hoo-bloody-ray!

nystatin is the treatment of choice in australia. loads better than canestan.

Creams and pessaries alleviate the itching for me but the oral capsule is the only thing that ever clears it for me. Usually in a day or two.

Oral capsule and (importantly) one for your partner if you have unprotected sex. Otherwise he will just keep reinfecting you.

No more suggestions but you're lucky you didn't know you had it
