Cold sore on eyelid

This is what I appear to have, right in the inside corner of my right eyelid.

I'm sure it's a cold sore as it feels exactly like when I get them around my mouth, which I do frequently atm.

The rest of my eyelid is slightly swollen too and painful to the touch.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Is it something I should go to the doc with? I wouldn't with a normal cold sore but with it being so close to my eye I wonder if I should.

Is it a stye?

You get them on your eyelids and you can get cream from the chemist for it.

Hi VivaLeBeaver, no I don't think it's a stye.

It feels just like a cold sore does and its not a hard, swollen, infected lump like a stye would be.

I can see the little cold sore-like blisters.

If you have a cold sore affecting your eye then you really need to get to a gp for some antivirals. I can't stress how important it is for you to do that. It may clear up ok or it may lead to scarring. The sooner you start treatment the better .

Then yes, definetly go and see a GP tomorrow.

I have had this once before as an adult and yes i definitely needed Fucidin ointment/cream and it cleared up real quick after a few applications. Go tomorrow to knock it on the head quickly as it will spread and your eye could close up (happened to me at 2 yrs old apparently)

This sounds like the thing that I get sometimes. You will need cream from the doctor.You can buy a cream by Optrix over the counter but its not as strong as a prescription.One good thing to do is the get a warm flannel (dip it in hot water) and put it over your eyes for a couple of minutes, gently massaging the eyelids. The doctor will probably advise you do this weekly. It may well be caused by the tiny lash pores (not sure if that is the right word) getting clogged with grease from the eye. It hurts like hell and DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO SQUEEZE THE WHITE PIMPLE!!! I tried this once - and only once!

I too suffered from a cold sore in the corner of my eye. My gp put some eye drops in which sent my eye greenish, it confirmed the presence of a cold sore and I was given a cream for it.

I wouldnt try any home remedies like warm flannels until you've got the go ahead from the gp.

Agree with OhYouBadBadGhostie. Do not go putting warm flannels over your eyes and massaging your eyelids until you know what it is. If it is a coldsore, the last thing you want to do is go spreading it around - you want to try to avoid it actually spreading from the eyelid to the eye itself at all costs. Go to the GP and get proper advice.

What I get is caller 'blephitus" (or something like that)! Do see your doctor before doing anything too the eye. 'Luckily' this doesn't spread but hurts like crazy!

It bloody hurts, rabbitstew...! The first time it looked like I had been punches in the eye, but now when I get it it just gets itchy for a couple of days before the 'pimple' puts in an appearance. I can't imagine how sore a coldsore on the eye is - I did have one on my nose though.

(Must make rabbit stew for DS. My mum used to make a lovely one.)
