I recently realised my stools are much harder than they should be so asked doctor for laxative.

Is it normal that you then end up with diarrhea?

Seems daft that you go from one extreme to another?

Or is it just a coincidence?

wot a fool i am! Ill re rite it. I had the same problem. The laxatives r irritating the bowels nerves. G surpossitries worsened the problem, brought on severe gas build up. I was unable 2 wear my clothes. I paid out £60 to have a private irrigation. As i was told by my Gp i had full bowels i needed 4! 3yrs l8 and im constipation free!!!!!! Laxatives r known to make the colon more lazy. Gps know this but thats all they can give you. Eat healthy brown bread rice ect and drink 2/3 tepid water a day. If you r the type 2 keep everything inside or going through a rough time this will affect constipation the colon. Laxatives are the main reason people have a stoma bag. The irrigation place i went 2 is in northampton near the racecourse Queens park parade. If you do go 4 a irrigation, but not the above, make sure you get a good one.
