Problems reaching orgasm since taking anti depressants.

I've been on fluoxetine since about April time. I found it harder to reach orgasm (by myself) and Recently got a new partner and can't orgasm fully. Still pleasurable but not full orgasm (he doesn't seem aware!) Blush

Was fine before taking these so I'm guessing they are the cause. Do all anti depressants cause this problem? Otherwise no other problems, so reluctant to change medication.

Not all do but it is pretty common with some types. Found the older types don't cause this as much. You could try switching.

I have had this problem with efexor and prozac (not sure on the drug names sorry)

I slowly came off them as I was feeling better anyway, so I never got round to askign the doctor if there were any that didn't cause this. I'm sure i've heard people mention there is one they have had no problems with but not sure of the name. Hopefully someone who knows will come along and say :)

yeah effexor was bad for me too. Worth putting up with if u r feeling really down but if you are feeling well enough to want sex and a relationship then may be worth discussing it with your GP. Mine didn't bat an eyelip when I mentioned the side effects by the way.

I had this with citalopram, my Gp lowered the dose slightly which improved things, I've been on citalopram for a few years now, and the problems has righted itself even though my dose is higher now - so I presume it can diminish over time.

But do talk to your GP about it, so that you can try a lower dose/different drug/ something else. There's no reason why you should have to choose between your mental health and your libido.

Thanks for replies.
I will make drs appointment then and see what they say. Just worried about ending up with a different side effect on something else!

I'm on fluxetine and have the same problem too Sad, I don't want to come off it though as I've tried others and this is the best for me, I'm on a low dose too so can't lower the dosage.

Drs appointment made for Monday morning. Hope if I get different meds, this problem goes away quickly!

i had terrible problems with inability to orgasm with one anti depressant; have been fine with seroxat, it did get easier and 'better' with time, too, so may be worth pursuing. Mind you, seroxat (flueroxetine) does come with a hundred other drawbacks, but it is a great mood lifter and has probably saved my life these last 10 years

I've got different meds to start taking next week. The Dr was lovely and said that few people admit to this problem on fluoxetine. The new ones (forgotten name of them) she's given me, she said she has had 1 person having the same problem. So its a case of wait and see I guess!
