Hi. I haven't got a mirena coil, but My sister did. She has had it taken out now because she had really heavy periods with it aswell. She kept the coil in for about 7 months incase it needed time to adjust, but her periods were heavier than before she had it put in.

Sad I had it put in to stop my heavy periods!

Oh hun, maybe it might take abit longer to settle, in My sisters case it just didn't. I hope it does settle for you, try not to let it get you down.

I had one for 15 months - it was fitted to help prevent very heavy periods - I continued to have heavy periods and for the final 3 months I was bleeding almost continuously - I also had very unpleasant discharge.
My gynaecologist was admanat that this was not being caused by the Mirena - however when I finally insisted that it was removed the bleeding and discharge stopped.

I wish I had had it taken out earlier but I kept being told that I needed to give it time

Hi
I had a mirena put in about 3 years ago and after the first couple of months my periods disappeared to barely nothing. however been having heavy periods again this last couple of months and about to go back to the gp. I would definitely wait a couple of months before making any decisions.

hth.

Thanks, it is good to hear anything positive. Maybe you are Ruhr; I need to give it a little while longer.
Will try to ignore it til after Christmas. Grin

I had mine fitted 15 months ago due to very heavy periods.

I now have frequent periods, which last quite a while but there is very little pain and the bleeding is totally manageable. A 100% improvement for me.

Stick with it and see how it goes.

i had mine put in 2 months ago and have had two heavy periods, just as heavy as the periods the coil was meant to stop! It has also given me horrendous hives off topic - so I'm giving it another 4 months but if i'm still bleeding like this by then it's coming out. good luck
