...Were you ever told not to drink by your GP?

...Did/does your PIL (Patient Information Leaflet) mention alcohol at all?

...Does the label on the front of the packet mention alcohol?

...Have you ever had a drink whilst on Prozac and "lost" time?

Thank you!

I had the odd drink when I was on ad's but it was seroxat, I think thats similiar to prozac. I diddn't react too badly. hth

purpleturtle · 22/12/2005 16:17

I don't think I was told not to drink. I can't remember there being anything in the leaflet/on the packet about it. I found that alcohol combined with flouxetine kept me awake at night, but with practice it ceased to have any untoward effects. I definitely never lost time.

Kaysleighbells · 22/12/2005 16:17

I am on fluoxetine (prozac)and regularly drink, although am not a heavy drinker. Maybe two or three glasses of wine a couple of times a week.
Have never expierenced "Lost time"

Am pretty sure was told I could drink in moderation. Can't remember what the packet says as it's at home and I'm working - but can look for you later if no-one else comes along.

sweetbean · 22/12/2005 16:25

I was on prozac for years and drank alot sometimes but never exsperianced any problems. Have you ahd any other side affects or have you been well other than that as it may be that you are alergic !! good luck with it let me know how you get on.

festiveface · 22/12/2005 16:36

i took prozac and still drank, not excessively, just 3 or 4 on a night out. I was fine.

feastofsteven · 22/12/2005 17:51

Was 30 weeks PG at time I was prescribed, so not really an issue!

PIL in my box of Prozac says:-
"Antidepressants can affect your judgment or co-ordination. Do not drive or operate machinery unless you are sure you are not affected. This applies to a greater extent when starting therapy or if alcohol is taken. It is therefore recommended that you avoid drinking alcohol during your treatment".

Nothing on the label

Never had "lost" time or other adverse consequences mixing Prozac and alcohol.

somethingsexyandLYcRAinmystock · 22/12/2005 18:22

i asked my doc about this and she said the odd glass of wine here and there would be fine. never experienced "missed time" after alcohol and prozac. i came off it when i discovered i was pg this time, may go back on if i get pnd again.

MIstletAOU · 22/12/2005 21:05

Thanks all - anyone else?

I took Prozac and drank a couple of glasses of wine a night. I asked about alcohol when it was prescribed and was told that all medication works better without the interference of alcohol but the occassional drink would not have an impact.

Thanks everyone. Essbee, it was MrMiaou, he is on fluoxetine and "lost" time when he was out at a Christmas works do. Last thing he remembers he was sitting at the dinner table pulling crackers, next thing he was pulling out of the car park in his car, twice over the limit, and the police stopped him. We are wondering if there is a link between what happened to him and taking ad's and drinking (which he doesn't normally do) - but alcohol is not contra-indicated on the PIL and he was not told not to drink by his GP. So I'm just trying to find out if it has ever happened to other people.

I've been taking 40mg per day for years & drink like a fish (sort of), although "one" is not supposed to! I've never been rat-arsed but I'll have a vodka-tonic & a couple of glasses of wine with dinner.

MIstletAOU · 24/12/2005 12:59

No, essbee, he had a room booked for the night. And he doesn't drink and drive either! He's been on them for six months and (apart from this) he's been very happy on them (so to speak!). We wonder if it was a combination of ad's, drink on an empty stomach, nerves/stress(he doesn't like social occasions) and extreme tiredness (we have a little baby). I had another thread going at the time this all kicked off and a couple of people said similar things had happened to them.
