Can anyone tell me about prostrate cancer & PSA levels please?

Hi, my DF had a biopsy on some polyps a few months back and all was ok. Now he says his PSA levels have gone up (routine check) and he's had a biopsy and waiting for results. He didn't go into details but what does all of this mean? What are the chances that things aren't good? Is the fact that they gave him a biopsy a sign that his PSA levels were so high that they suspect something sinister?

Thanks

PSA is non specific - for instance, it goes up naturally as mens prostates get bigger with age, and can really shoot up if the prostate is infected or if has been messed about with in any way. Sometimes, the thing to do is wait a few months and remeasure, and sometimes a biopsy is the quickest way to decide what is going on.

The great news is that even if he does have prostate cancer, when it is found on regular PSA checks it is very, very curable
