DS (19mo) has viral pneumonia

As opposed to bacterial pneumonia. He is home after 4 days in hospital but is still quite breathless, although cheerful and eating well. He's having an inhaler every 4 hours containing Sultanol (like Ventolin), Atrovent plus either NaCl or Pulmicort (a steroid). We live in Germany, my German isn't great (although it improved immeasurably over the weekend!) so I'm existing in a bit of a bubble with this.
Anyone else got experience of this with their child?
Would a similar treatment be prescribed in the UK?
Any other tips for helping him get through it?
I'm feeling a bit isolated and would really appreciate hearing about other experiences. Thanks.

DD just got over pneumonia although as it responded to anti-biotics I don't think I can be much help here

although wanted to send you empathy because its a foul thing to go through

(yorkiegirl's DD2 had it too and the hospital my DD was at said 80% of under 3's admitted were with pneumonia .. it seems fairly rife at the moment)

No experience just wanted to wish him a speedy recovery, you must have be very worried.

Hope you have a better Christmas as he gets stronger.

Thanks for the replies and good wishes. We had a really bad day actually. After the euphoria of getting him home yesterday he went all floppy again today. I was getting a bit frantic by lunch time - he wouldn't eat anything, was stuck to me like a wimpering limpet and had a slight temp. My sil (who is a doctor) came and listened to his breathing, and he actually is much better. We decided he must have picked up another cold or something that's making him feel rubbish again. Poor little chap is really miserable, and he hates the inhaling machine every 4 hours although it's obviously helping. It's a horrible thing for the whole family to go through, but we just have to ride it out I guess.
