Broken toenail & flaky skin.

My ds (1 yr) has got a broken toenail (slightly jagged edge and white at the top where it's pulled away from the skin). I've got no idea how this happened - I'm sure he would have let us know if we'd stood on it! The skin on the end of his toe is also a bit red and looks as though a bit has flaked/been rubbed off.

I'm not too worried about it but dp is (thinks it might be some kind of fungal infection) & wants me to take ds to the doctor.

Personally, I'd rather take dp to the doctor as he's constantly worrying about the slightest thing but gets me to ask the questions, so I end up looking like a hypochondriac!!!!

Any thoughts?

Thanks

My DS had this too - took him to HV and she said it had turned into an ingrowing toenail and needed antibiotics.Took him to GP who said it might turn into an ingrowing toenail and prescribed antibiotics. The trouble is, he hates having his nails cut and sometimes catches them on things (socks, doors etc) as there is always a bit left I can't get at. It has come back red and swollen once since and had more antibiotics which seem to have done the trick. The nail still looks a bit 'funny' though. I think if I were you, I would take him as if it turns into an ingrowing nail, they can be quite nasty and very painful and infections in nails are notoriously hard to get rid of. Good luck
