diabetic child at dd1s birthday party - what treats to eat?

one of the little girls in dd1s class is diabetic (I have just remembered, 7 hours before party). Her mum didnt mention anything when she accepted the invite.

Is there anything special I can make for her to eat?

have u got the mums number, how old is the girl? i think as long as she doesnt eat just the icing on the cake she should be ok. if she is running around with the others she'll need a bit extra sugar anyway cos otherwise she'll have a hypo.

Enideepmidwinter · 17/12/2005 08:39

no I dont have her number sadly.

so I might take the pink sugar icing, liberally studded with jelly beans, off the cake first ?

lol, nah just make sure its not the only thing she eats. sandwiches i think are good (brown bread), and a pasta dish as they are slow realease i think. trying to remember all my diabetic stuff from last year.

Enideepmidwinter · 17/12/2005 08:41

well I was going to do sausages and chips, cucumber and cherry tomatoes

Enid - I'm not an expert but a balanced meal is usually OK

Sausage and chips with veg is lovely and don't think it will be a problem

Neither will the cake

Her mum wouldn't have accepted if she thought her DD wouldn't be able to eat anything

It will be OK - I promise

katymacracker · 17/12/2005 08:46

Just check with her mum as she is dropped off (and ask about drinks - fresh juice/water/fizzy) and you will be fine

Enideepmidwinter · 17/12/2005 08:47

oh good

panicked there for a moment

as dd1 casually mentioned it over pancakes 'oh by the way kate has special blood and can't have sugary stuff'

panic over. lol.

Was it OK?
