This is a long shot but hoping someone can help me. My dh's nan is in a nursing home and has dementia. My dh aunt's are very against any medication to be given to her for her hallucinations/psychotic episodes and it has been an ongoing bone of contention. This week they have started her on a drug and wrote to my dh aunt and said they had started her on the medication and if the family object then they will apply for her guardianship. What does this mean and who does my mil need to go to for advice. Any help much appreciated

Can I ask why they are so against medication

because they are ingorant and in denial about their mother's dementia! I am not in agreement with them but trying to help. My dh aunts are relatives from hell. They believe the medication is given to keep them quiet so the nurses don't have to do anything. (I am a nurse but this is not my field)

Here's the public guardianship office who would deal with any application for power of attorney throught the court of protection.
public guardianship office .
Hope this helps - if your mil is in agreement with the home maybe she could apply for power of attorney and then she would be able to override other family members.
