Just a few questions really, the letter says that I will be in the scanner for between 45-60 mins, I am not claustrophobic so think I will be ok, but just really wanted to know from anyone who has had one what it is really like.

It also says that I have to wear something that contains no metal at all, so no zips, clips, buttons or anything, and if not I will be given a gown, I am thinking that I don't really have anything suitable, so was wondering what you wore, and if it was just a gown.

Also did you have to get a dye injection? It says I may or may not need to get this, is it just a basic injection if I do?

and finally it says I can bring an MP3 player if I want, was just wondering how this works if you are in a big magnetic tunnel, as I have the fear of using my iphone and it getting ruined Blush

Anything else that you think might be useful, I would really appreciate you sharing.

Thanks Smile

Two of mine were with the dye, and it had no side effects. I think they would have told you in the letter if there was a risk of it affecting your ability to drive home afterwards (they do with other procedures).

DS drove home after the dye on Friday, he had no side effects at all, and was not warned that he might have some, so maybe your friend had some kind of sedative, as well as the dye, as the dye itself is fine, I think.

Thanks again, you lot are great, I do feel much better about it all than I did yesterday. Glad to hear others had no effects with the dye, perhaps my colleague did have something else, as that's a really good point about it mentioning in the letter for traveling home. Good!

I have my ipod charging and questionnaire for tomorrow all filled in, so I am all set.

Really, thanks again, I feel so much more re-assured than I did yesterday. Thanks for you all!!!

eatyourveg, you don't always need dye for brains. (sorry, been busy!)

Thats good. Didn't think I had one last time but this time they are looking for something different

I had one at 39 weeks pregnant - I only just fitted in the tunnel thingy and remember getting worried I might get stuck!! The radiographer kept telling me to breathe in and then baby decided to have a good shift about whilst I was in there - DS was breach when I went in and head down when I came out - hooray Grin

Just to update!

It was fine, I was allowed to wear all my own clothes, jeans and tshirt, but I couldn't have my music played.

I went in superman style on my stomach with arm strapped out in front of me, which was really awkward and uncomfortable, but that was how they would get the best picture.

I was asking if I should take my bra off, but was told no it was fine to keep it on, then on the way to the scanner, the nurse was worried that my hair bobble would have metal in it, and I was thinking why is that a big deal and my bra isn't?!!

Anyway, I had total bra paranoia and I thought it was heating up at one point, but I don't actually think it was! Grin

I was in for 45 mins, and it felt really long and boring, the noises were really loud, I had headphones on, but nothing was coming through them, music or radio or something would have made it seem less long.

I didn't need to have the dye, so it was all really straightforward and actually nothing to worry about at all.

Thansk all again for talking me through it Smile
