abnormal smear test

I had an abnormal smear test about 4 years ago. I was treated for severe dyskariosis with laser treatment. Since then I have had to have yearly smear tests of which all (thank goodness) have come back clear. My next one is now due. Does anyone know what the chances are of this condition returning once it has already been treated. One doctor I spoke to said it is 99% likely never to return once you have had the abnormal cells removed but if that is the case, why the yearly smears?

Help! Had colposcopy result CIN3. I have appt for treatment laser/loop diathermy, not sure which one until I get there. Really Really scared, no pain threshold whatsoever. Not worried about being embarassed only pain. Anyone who can offer honest advice out there ?

Have had loop diathermy - relax and don't worry about it, it lasts 10 minutes and you get a local anaesthetic - so quick I didn't even realise they had done it. I've had more painful smears. You will get bleeding for a couple of weeks but it's a bit like post-birth bleeding and not painful. And I found out afterwards that several friends and colleagues had had it too, without follow-up problems.

i've had a loop excision, but under general. this was for cin 1...i've often wondered if they were being a bit previous iyswim.

I've also had diathermy traetment 3 years ago due to a bad cervical erosion. I would agree that it's not too bad at all. The worst bit is getting the injection but that's a quick scratch and after that it's fine. I did feel a bit tender and also bled a bit but it was honestly okay.
I also had the option of watching the procedure on the tv screen that the surgeon was using and though at first I couldn't look, I ended up watching it in amazement. I couldn't feel it so it wasn't happening to me!
Hope all goes well for you and am sure it will - just make sure you have no glitter or posrage stamps stuck to your bits per the apochryphal tales!

Lyndap I am quite hooked on daytime TV but I draw the line at actually watching the procedure, but hats off to you. I still am a little worried in case they say laser treatment, although from responses loop seems to be more commonly used.Has anyone out there had laser treatment? If they suggest laser should I ask to have a general instead of local? I am reassured about the loop but it seems as if I wont know what they plan until I get there and want to be prepared.
