Boil a kettle & inhale the steam, it will help break down all the mucus.

Eucalyptus oil in a bowl of steam, towel over head, head over bowl.

Eucalyptus oil on hankie/pillow.

Sleep slightly upright so there isn't too much pressure on the sinuses.

I find sudafed & sinutab brilliant for me.

Ohhh, YG, you poor thing. I get it a bit but not as badly as this. Do those sinutab things not do any good? paracetamol+ibuprofen? Squirt-up-your-nose stuff?

Mistymoo · 15/12/2005 22:04

I take sudafed dual max relief and they seem to help. Hope you feel better soon.

My doc said it was one of the worst pains you can have and that even pethidine wouldn't get rid of it. Sorry if that has depressed you more.

crikey yorkie - it must be horrendous, I know how bad it can be but have never passed out!

Is doxycycline an antibiotic? If so, hopefully it will get better, but in the meantime can you get to you gp's and ask for some serious painkillers?

What painkillers do you have?

Did you tell doctor you passed out with the pain?

Take a shower before bed (you might not feel like it I know, but it really helps you get a better nights' sleep - recommended by my GP instead of antibiotics!). Personally I don't find sudafed much use and it gives me insomnia too. What painkillers are you taking? NSAIDs are more effective for sinusitis than paracetamol (I use ibuprofen).

Typical! Can you take any NSAIDs?

Still take a shower though.

Poor you .

I do get hacked off with not being precribed adequate pain relief!

After I had my last wisdom tooth out I was screaming with the pain, prescribed painkillers not touching it. Went to A&E where doctor said "well they won't help much, gave me some horse tablets and a shot of pethidine you know where"!!!

sympathy yorkie - hope you get better soon, but do go back first thing if the pain doesn't ease tonight.

how about a holiday in the Caribbean where you can dive into warm salty water and get a bit of it up your nose? salt water helps to clear the gunk out like nothing else. if not able to get to the caribbean just now, then a wee bottle of saline drops to squirt up the nose.

snort salt water

kiskidee · 15/12/2005 23:13

yep custy, snort.

I was HOPING you could pay for me to come along yorkie. I've got the lurgy at the moment.

bobbybobbobbingalong · 15/12/2005 23:15

My surgeon recommended bicarb of soda in the water for snorting as well as the salt - no idea why.

GingerBearingGifts · 15/12/2005 23:16

no tips but a big hug.

jalopy · 16/12/2005 14:13

Drink lots of fluids, steam inhalations regularly and chomp on chewing gum. No kidding! I find the chewing motion helps to relieve the hideous sinus pain and eases congestion. Try it!
