I think I should point out that I'm not trying to convince anyone to have the vaccine.
My main aim is make people aware of what info is out there regarding disease prevention, screening and risk as there appeared to be misunderstanding of several aspects of these.
My background is that I'm a scientist working in a screening lab and I post in a purely personal capacity because I feel strongly about educating the public about screening particularly cervical (my area).

lemonbalm · 27/09/2011 17:00

Your posts - and particularly your links - have been extremely useful, Bela. I still have to read some of the stuff about screening for HPV.

Leonie, if you can prove what you are saying, without trotting out Andrew Wakefield, then go ahead.

'Wellllll... since there is a link between hpv vax and autoimmunity , and a link between autoimmunity and autism , then the discussion of autism (and the wider subject of vaccine damage) is perfectly relevant on this thread, and every other vax thread out there.'

These statements and links are what I invite you to prove, one step at a time, with no bold leaps of logic or fact.

PIMSoclock · 27/09/2011 17:23

I am a medical professional (as previously stated) with three separate qualifications including one in pathphysiology

My specialty is critical care where I have done and written research papers.

I do not work for a pharmaceutical company

HPV vaccines equal autoimmunie disease (dispute the article you linked saying it could prove NO CAUSATIVE LINK) equals autism
And u wonder why I think your claims are dangerous???
You are a liability and making dangerous and unfounded claims

For the record I have consistently posted up to date scientific and evidence based information to help people make informed decisions.
The scare mongering tactics you employ show the weakness of ur argument and lack of interest In constructively helping other people

PIMSoclock · 27/09/2011 17:26

Leonie Would you like me to explain the difference between link/correlation and causation, cause you seem to be struggling to understand it

And as bela and I have Been open enough to share our qualifications following accusations of conflicting professional status perhaps lemon and leonie would like to share theirs??

PIMSoclock · 27/09/2011 17:31

Just because it's true doesn't make it rude. It makes it true Smile

I'm a mum. Smile

PIMS, is any of your research funded by Glaxo Smith Kline?

PIMSoclock · 27/09/2011 17:33

Such is the argument of the anti vaxer
A logical point showing the error of your argument Is made so you divert the subject by claiming abuse and rudeness.

Your points re autism are not relevant to this thread, fact

PIMSoclock · 27/09/2011 17:35

Lemon, no
I have never needed nor accepted funding from ANY drug company.
Not sure how that's relevant are you questioning my professional integrity ???
That's quite offensive isn't it?'

lemonbalm · 27/09/2011 17:36

Is your approach solely due to your mum refusing you antibiotics, then? Confused

lemonbalm · 27/09/2011 17:39

Just to be clear, I ask that because your approach is so aggressively stifling of debate; it seems weird, especially in someone who has done further education.

PIMSoclock · 27/09/2011 17:39

Please stick to the HPVA discussion ladies
People are looking for good quality arguments not sensationalist articles, scare mongering and petty insults

Back to the topic

PIMSoclock · 27/09/2011 17:44

Lemon I lost my best friend to a preventable form of cervical cancer at the age of 24, she left behind a 5 year old child
That is why the facts risks of this are soo important to make as clear as possible using ALL the up to date evidence available

juuule · 27/09/2011 17:47

"People are looking for good quality arguments not sensationalist articles, scare mongering and petty insults "

PIMS - People are looking for answers to their questions. If those questions have been provoked by sensationalist articles then it would make no sense not to refer to the article which has worried them. It makes no sense to address people's concerns as scaremongering. They may have a genuine worry which whether real or not needs an answer not a put-down. Surely addressing those worries with a good counter argument is more helpful than dismissing them as not worthy of debate.
Petty insults are a bind to wade through but then telling people to shut up because they oppose what you are saying doesn't help either.

lemonbalm · 27/09/2011 17:51

Bela, I must find out how best to protect my dc from cervical cancer. I'm going to have to come back with some more questions.

In some ways I wish this hare hadn't been started, but now that there's so much info on here, it's important to make sense of it.

mathanxiety · 27/09/2011 17:52

'Would you like me to explain the difference between link/correlation and causation'

This is not rude or in any way a means of stifling debate. When it comes to debate on an issue such as vaccination it has to be based on actual facts and evidence and not on rumours or the discredited theories of disgraced doctors.

PIMSoclock · 27/09/2011 17:53

I never told anyone to shut up, that would be rude! and leonie has posted these articles on other threads.
Theses have been discussed extensively. She is not looking for answers, she is trying to instil doubt and fear.
Not a positive contribution

i think we have a funny situation in this country where a parent is allowed to deprive their child of a vaccination against a near endemic disease that can cause very serious, life threatening conditions.
