Hes beeen grumpy for a while, he woke up friday morning covered in spots, we took him to the gp and hes been diagnosed with a mild form of measles nothing to worry about, just make sure he drinks.

Anyway last night he starts crying so we go into his room and hes burning up, so i sponge him down in cool water and give him some medicine. So anyway thats all, ok his medicine is slightly bringing the temo down. but he has not drunk or eaten since yesterday, he resuses a bottle and a cup, he wont open hismouth for a teaspoon of fluid, and now come breakfast time hes refusing to eat even though hes got his favorite bananas. any tips on how i can get him to eat and drink?

what about an ice lolly?

oh leave him! hell be ok

Curmudgeonlett · 13/12/2005 18:54

don't worry about eating at all

and try ice lollies / ice chips

Well, I wouldn't have thought the eating part mattered one bit - no child eats when they have a temperature, IME, but the drinking thing is more important. I have seen some people suggest ice lollies. I have never tried it, but it might be an idea.

are you giving calpol and ibuprofen at the same time

offer drink particularly about 20 mins after calpol as may be feeling a little better at that time

He seems perfectly happy and active in himself except when his temp peaks right up, im giving him something like calpol because we cant get calpol out here, hes also got ibuprofen, he wont take ice chips or lollies he just clamps hismouth shut, its hard enough getting his medicine in with a siringe, i can get the liquid in his mouth like that but hes just bringing it strieght back up, he seems quite weak on his feet, but like i say hes playing and talking. hes 15 months by the way.
