My dd1(6 next week) has been off colour for about 6 weeks now, she has had blood tests(2 weeks ago) that showed up slight anemia(sp?) and slight virus.
Got up this am with swollen eyes which got worse resulting in turning straight round at school to go home again. We suspected conjuntivius as did th e pharmacist who gave us some eye drops, spoke to GP who said just give her the drops.
Whilst on phone he said she had been refered to paeds ( which I didn'tknow)
By around 11 am she was fine eyes back to normal just about BUT this pm face swollen under eyes on one side.then back to normal 1 hour later.
Any advice?

Sorry DD unwell. Mine had puffy eyes during a viral infection last week (underneath, and around, and worst after sleeps) and the GP did a urine dip to rule out kidney problems - they can cause puffiness around eyes. That said, as far as I know (which isnt' very far!) kidney related puffiness tends to be first thing in the morning and get better during day as gravity pulls the fluid downwards. Anyway...DD was fine, so I guess it was part of her viral illness. She did complain of stingy eyes, but as she's 2 and given to wild imaginings, its a bit hard to tell what that means! Could your DD have an allergy, I wonder? Is she allergic in any other way that you know of?

No idea! sorry! but maybe have her blood checked again? see a paed if you can. fingers crossed for you, nikkie & your dd1.

when you say off colour, how do you mean? I ask because ds1 has been off for a while, he's had a temperature all week.
He is normally such a greedy guts and he's even been refusing his favourites!

The puffy eyes sounds like an allergy doesn't it, hope she's soon sorted out nikkie.

Absolutly exhausted.Coming homefrom school and laying on sofa, other days too tired to get to school at all.very pale, sometimes temp others fine, bit of ear ache/sore throat/cough nonthing lasts more than a couple of days except the tired ness which went on for about 6 weeks, slightly better now though.
Got a letter today re referral from the hosp trust, I have to choose a hosp before it will go to paeds BUT there is only one within about an hour so why waste time/energy/money withthis?

Nikkie, so sorry DD pale and tired again - sounded like she was feeling better for a bit. Interesting that she was better after a night away from the house, could be allergic to something?? Definitely would take her back to GP though. That kind of on/off temp and exhuastion could be SO many things...viruses, allergies, glandular fever, etc etc. Sounds like a good thing she's going to get a proper check up by the hospital - meantime, hope she feels better this week, let us know!

GP has perscibed an iron supplement to put her on til see hosp. Her white blood count is low any ideas? Her sore eyes are ezcema caused by an allergic reaction to something she has touched ( no ideas here) drops for this are very stingy and it is more important to get the iron in her so to try piriton for a week first.
Hosp will allergy test eventually.
Thanks for listening (and possibly helping )

Glad you got to see the GP, Nikkie - poor old DD, she's really going through the mill! No idea on the low WCs, but it does account for her taking a while to bounce back from viral infections. Hope the ezcema clears up fast - and that the iron helps! Any idea how long the hosp. apt will take to come through?

nikkie · 14/12/2005 21:15

Referral has JUST gone to hosp and the earlest will be Jan prob the end.
Just had a thought re allergy, got xmas tree last mon, 1sttime we've had a real tree, and her eyes started tues night/wed am?
Or possibly just decorators last week?

OP posts:
EliBeentoSantasGrotto · 14/12/2005 21:59

DH is very allergic to Xmas trees - if he handles them without gloves, he comes up in a rash! The sap, apparently, is pretty allergenic. On the other hand, you could drive yourself nuts trying to figure out DD's allergies...paint fumes, trees, all possible culprits. End of Jan only six weeks away (aaargh) hope DD is loads better by then!

nikkie · 15/12/2005 21:31

Tree is outside now anyway, dr said something she touched then touched eyes, tree seems more likely than paint.Got iron meds today and started piriton, hope she is ok for her b'day tomorrow
