Sometimes my toes will pull themselves up. Something in the top of my foot tightens utterly involontarily, my toes pull up, especially the 2nd and 3rd toes (the 2 next in from the big toe) and no matter what I do it doesn't make it stop until it stops itself.

It hurts more than you'd think and it's happening more frequently but it still seems a trivial thing to take to the GP. Can anyone please suggest what might be happpening here?

I don't know if it's relevant but I'm 7mo pregnant.

It sounds like a cramp. Are you getting enough time off your feet (i.e. feet up?). Baths might help, as well as soaking your feet / foot massage (gentle). Hope it improves for you.

i get this - it's cramp - keep your feet warm

Perhaps you are low in magnesium - take a supplement and the cramps may disappear.
