Just back from the DRs.

He was facinated said he hadn't really seen it before lots of ooohing and aaahing.

Thought it must be a bit nothingy if very painful, even though he has told me to go back and see him on Friday.

Just stupidly googled it and it says it can cause blindness!!

So anyone any experience please. Thanks

I get them quite often on my lip but the one on my eye dried much faster than them.
It looked bloody awful of course!

HarkTheHerpesAIMSMUMsings · 06/12/2005 17:27

Thanks everyone for your replies.

The Dr did think it was herpes, but going from what most of you have said I'm not to sure now.

I feel really awful today, my eye is really painful and red and I feel all headachey and my joints are all sore so not sure if something is working on my or if it is all part of the same thing.

If it is no better by Friday I will go back.

HMO2 - My DD has been fine this winter, not even so much as a cold so far, no problems at all....although i do keep waiting for it to happen How's your DD?

HappyMumof2TurtleDoves · 06/12/2005 18:25

Aimsmum, do go back if you carry on feeling so ill. Don't know anything about herpes, but always better to be cautious (sp?) I think, especially where your eyes are concerned.

Glad your dd is okay. My dd is fine too. No more infections, although I have taken her a couple of times thinking she had one as she's been miserable (just hit the terrible twos)
Had hospital appointment in October and the doctor said her ears looked fine, so fingers crossed. Although last year it started in December so don't want to speak to soon!

Lets both hope it lasts

SueW · 06/12/2005 18:27

Why not just pop into an optician's tomorrow and see if there is someone there who can see you and give you some more advice. I did that years ago when I had an eye infection and was sent straight to Moorfields Eye Hospital (was working in London at the time)

HarkTheHerpesAIMSMUMsings · 06/12/2005 18:31

That's great news HM, fingers crossed for us both for the rest of the winter then. It was a year ago last week that DD had her grommet done and I keep thinking how much healthier she is this year compared to last!

If I'm no better in the next few days I will definately either go back to the Dr or pop into an opticion as I have had a letter through to make an appointment for an eye test anyway!

Thanks

Ainsmum, did you get cold sores before? Because if its your first herpes attack it would be normal to feel a bit flu-ey. Is your vision OK?

beansontoast · 06/12/2005 23:50

i felt really rough when i got face herpes! (aged seventeen...niiiice)for ages..prob a week at least!!
From what i can remember...
you might find you get more and more sores erupting...with a down turn in how well you feel...the sores themselves follow nerve routes so you can get them as i did in your mouth, ears and across your face.

take paracetemol and all that the dr prescribes for you (ususlly stuff that slow the virus down rather than kill it off)

the good news is you shouldnt get it this bad again

chipmonksRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 07/12/2005 10:19

Ainsmum, how are you doing??

KeepingMum · 07/12/2005 10:25

Oh poor you, my ds gets this (first time when he was 15 months). They always send him to the opthalmologist straight away to make sure the cornea is OK. He also gets zovirax. He has had a couple more on his eyes and then last month got a big one on his lip. Hope its not too uncomfortable.

HarkTheHerpesAIMSMUMsings · 07/12/2005 10:30

Thanks for asking

Yeah this is the first time Ihave ever had any kind of cold sore at all. That is how I feel a bit fluey. My left arm is totally aching and hurts to move it, not sure if that is conected or not though. I don't feel quite as bad today as I did yesterday I don't think, so hopefully it is passing! My vision is fine, except for a while after I use the zovirax, but think that is normal.

I have so much on this week, so it was a bad week to get it. But hopefully it should begin to clear up soon.

Thanks for your advice

TurkeyGang · 07/12/2005 10:34

I keep seeing this thread title and feel so sorry for you - this must be just awful

I get cold sores on my mouth if I get run down about once or twice a year and that is bad enough - but to have them in your eyes must be hell.

Just wanted to say I really hope you're over this soon.

snowgirl · 07/12/2005 11:30

I get frequent coldsores in various places. Taking L-Lysinean amino acid available from Holland and Barrett type placescan speed up recovery and prevent outbreaks. First came across this advice from a pharmacist in the States and it does seem to work.

HarkTheHerpesAIMSMUMsings · 07/12/2005 14:31

Thanks Turkey gang

Snowgirl I might look out for that thanks

HJ · 07/12/2005 15:02

I've had this for almost 5 years now, its a life long problem just like the normal cold sore virus's on lips. I visit the eye clinic regurlalry and when I have flare ups I use the eye cream and increase the steroid drops. Mine has flared up again and I now have a leaky bloodshot eye.....very attractive!

tamum · 07/12/2005 15:05

Poor you, Aimsmum. My prof at uni had this due to having mouth pipetted herpes virus when he was training to be a virologist . He must have coughed or something, and he swallowed some (urg) and splashed some in his eye. He did have long periods of time of not being bothered by it if that's any comfort.

HarkTheHerpesAIMSMUMsings · 08/12/2005 09:53

Tamum That would be awful!!

Thank everyone, it is nice to know that although I may get it again it might not be so bad and have long gaps between

It seems to have died down a bit today, although my eye still doesn't look that great. I have my works christmas thing today, so I will just be careful not to spread it around

chipmonksRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 18/12/2005 01:03

Ainsmum, is your eye better yet?

harktheheraldAIMSMUMsings · 18/12/2005 19:23

Thanks Chipmonks, it is loads better, but still not quite right my eyeball is very red on and off and it is watering quite a lot too, but not really sore at all, just feels quite strained.

I might try to go to the optitions during the christmas break.

I now have ulcers/coldsores or something on the insides of my lips now

Thanks for asking!

Maybe echinacea might help, sounds like you're a bit run-down!

SueW · 19/12/2005 19:42

It sounds like you could do with some anti-viral drugs.

harktheheraldAIMSMUMsings · 19/12/2005 20:14

Thanks.

I feel Ok though, even better for finishing off all my christmas shopping and wrapping most of it I think I might have some echinecea(sp?) in a cupboard somewhere if it is still in date!

I finish up work on Thursday, for just over two weeks, so I'm sure that will pick me up a bit.

Thanks again
