iron tablets - manufacturing problems?

have posted this on the pregnancy topic as wekk but thought I might find some clever bods in the know on this topic too:-

Hello, I've been having an ongoing problem getting iron tablets. First my GP would only prescribe ferrous sulphate and ferrous fumerate both of which made me sick. She finally agreed that after 3 months of taking them and continuing dips in anaemia she would prescribe the slow release ones Ferrograd which are easier on the stomach and shouldnt make me sick (was sick every time I took the other ones, hence continued anaemia). BUT, they are impossible to locate. Apparently there is a problem with the supplier of ferrous things and I called 10 pharmacies before finding one with one pack of tablets left. I have these but they told me they wont be able to get more in 4 weeks when I need them. Everywhere is the same - anyone with any ideas? Anyone having the same problem?

No way to help with yours, but I swear by spatone liquid iron mixed in orange juice... they are very gentle and might be suitable for you?

I take Ferrograd C and they definitely do make it in batches so sometimes you have to wait for weeks. I buy in bulk as a result!
Try asking everyone you know to try their local chemist - somewhere will still have some!
Good luck

I had the same prob you have, the hockey. I, too, get Spatone sachets from Holland & Barrett. Thing is, I have to pay for them, can't get them on prescription. The other stuff made me so sick, though, it's worth paying.
