Agonisingly painful left hip..... OUCHHHHHHHHHHH

For as long as I can remember I've had 'clicky hips' which ache slightly (not enough to cause me any probs with mobility). DH always remarks that I have the noisiest hips in town ! Over the last few days my left hip has become increasingly painful, to the point where it is now eye-wateringly painful to weight-bear . Getting up the stairs is painful enough, but add my 26lb DD to the mix and it is agony. It feels like my hip will give way. The pain is like a ring of burning ache around the very top of my thigh (prob around the 'head' of my ball and socket joint). It is a burning ache when I'm stationary but when I attempt to put weight on it it feels like a lot of painful 'pressure', IYSWIM. I'm not overweight (5ft 7ins, and around 9st 10lbs) or pregnant and have no real history of joint problems, aside from the background ache and 'clicking'. They make and audible 'click' at least 3 times a day (usually in the evening).

Does anyone have any ideas of what this might be and/or suffer a similar thing ? Though I am loathe to visit the doc about it I have made an appt for 11.20 this morning.
