I know I'm drinking too much but my problem is at this stage the actual habit more than the amount.
however I know it's a very slippery slope and really want to stop drinking in the week without it being an issue.
Presently I cannot wait to have that first glass , always when I start to make tea / get in from work .
I,ve started not going to the gym in the evenings so I can have a drink instead so I know it's a problem.
I drink half a bottle most nights.
would really appreciate some actual tips on stopping the habit.
If I,m out or working it doesn't even cross my mind so I think being somewhere else or busy might help until I've broken the habit. However with 4 dc I can't just elope every evening !
tips would be really helpful tho.
I gave up smoking with support on here.
have been a coward and name changed sorry . X

Gosh what aload of alkys we are on here Grin
I have managed 2 nights now,i have been feeling a bit shit tho, tired from annoying baby and headache from tiredness but im sure wine would have make it all so much worse.
It has been nice to still have then energy to see bedtimes thru properly and get the clearing up done.Next week my goal is to do some exercise in the evening.
Im not even going to drink at weekends, none till xmas for me.
I am drinking diet coke or elderflower.

ledkr · 09/11/2011 20:58

minx It will take a while, sounds as if you were right to do it tho. Id get some clams or herbal nytol for sleep and get some exercise.Maybe worth seeing your gp for advice too. Stick at it tho before you really have to.

minxofmancunia · 09/11/2011 21:11

I usually do a fair bit of exercise but know dh works away in the week I'm down to one run and one game of badminton a week, am having to miss yoga, zumba and adult ballet...am gutted Sad I think this is affecting my energy levels adversely but am looking forward to badminton tomorrow.

Have been drinking camomile tea eve to help relax, but worrying about work is keeping me awake. Think I was a bit reliant on a glass or 2 to switch off.

ledkr · 09/11/2011 21:21

OOH adult ballet sounds good,i used to teach tap to adults untill i had dd 9 i put weight on and gave up.I lost the weight eventually but im now struggling again since having dd2 who is 9 months. I was guessing the vino wasnt helping my cause. You sound like me,my dh works lots of late shifts so im on my owmn alot and cant commit to much and im also losing sleep worrying about going back to work in Jan.Im not worrying any more without the booxe tho,in fact im hoping ill be feeling more energetic and positive.

PinkCustard · 11/11/2011 09:47

Damn it - had a glass of wine last night Angry Oh well, back to it today - aiming for a booze-free weekend!

gallicgirl · 11/11/2011 09:52

Have you tried the drink aware website? It adds up units, calories and tells you how much you've spent.

nomadwantshome · 11/11/2011 16:04

Count me in. Used to be on a similar thread here years ago, so I'm a veteran lol.
I was drinking a bottle of wine a night without fail. Got to the end of my tether and went for hypnotherapy sessions. Stopped dead and was free for 6 months or so. Started having the odd glass whilst out and then gradually started drinking at home again, only at weekends. I was doing quite well, only 2-3 bottles over the course of the weekend....still too much though!

Recently it's been a bit stressed at work and dh has been away on business so it's crept up and I don't like it. I have been diagnosed with gastritis and I know this has been caused by alcohol NOT GOOD!

coffeeinbed · 11/11/2011 16:47

This is what I have been doing. It's been only two weeks, but I hope I can keep going.
I can have two glasses of wine between Monday and Thursday, but at the same evening. I don't have to have them, but knowing I can makes be feel less restricted.
Friday, Saturday - two, two and a half each evening - anything over and I cannot sleep properly. I know this is my limit.
Sunday - one, maybe one an a half.
Let's see.

coffeeinbed · 11/11/2011 16:48

Sorry, that should have been "not at the same evening".

ive been trying to cut down to weekends only...i went all week since saturday night but last night ended up getting a bottle of wine and a magazine FAIL! ...my problem with it is that i only have to sniff it and i get a massive hangover and reek of it the next day. Im gonna try again this week so i may aswell be counted in as any little bit of support will help :0)

violet79 · 11/11/2011 17:25

p.s. I tend to go for the wine cos i get tension headaches when im stressed and where paracetamol makes it worse , wine actually clears it...any tips for a different solution?

nomadwantshome · 11/11/2011 17:40

Violet how about a couple of drops of lavender essential oil on your temples? Also something cold on forehead. Sometimes the only thing I can do is withdraw to a cool, dark room! You could also try a walk in the fresh air? It's a bummer if it's at work!

gallicgirl · 11/11/2011 17:41

drink water, non-caffeinated drinks and bribe DP to give you a shoulder massage.

Grin

Oh and ibuprofin might be better that paracetomol as it's a muscle relaxant.

nomadwantshome · 11/11/2011 17:45

Minxx re: headachy and blurry, try some olbas oil on a tissue, it's a real sharpener. I've also used this to splash around the shower and then put the shower on hot so it gets steamy.

violet79 · 12/11/2011 02:18

thanks :) will try those things :)

ledkr · 12/11/2011 14:37

Im enjoying it tbh,i feel much more balanced and alert and less depressed. To back this up i had one glass of white last night and instantly felt dark and lethargic,i also found it harder to get up with the incerdible non sleeping 9 month old Hmm a bit easier.
Am hoping to see some improvment in my baby belly too.

Fakeblondie · 14/11/2011 22:52

How's it going everyone ?
I can't believe I'm into my 3 rd week now of only drinking at the weekend. that's Fri and Sat . I,m REALLY proud of myself.Feel less depressed and anxious and coping with work and life so much better. Also very much enjoying Fri evenings ! X

WentworthMillerMad · 15/11/2011 17:00

Hi I am on day 16 on my booze free 30 days. Half way through!
I have lost 15 lb as well and I think my liver is thanking me.
The hardest is Saturday night but just 2 more to go and I will enjoy a glass or 2. Not a bottle or 3!

nomadwantshome · 15/11/2011 18:42

Nothing yesterday and had a decent sleep last night. Nothing tonight so I'm quite proud of myself. My down fall is if I get really stressed, I know there are healthier things to do.....

Fakeblondie · 18/11/2011 12:36
