both ds1 and ds2 suddenly developed a temperature, bit of coughing and headache last night.
Spent all night going from one to the other. ds1 is 10 and ds2 is 6.
ds2 has low immune system whereby he doesn't fight the pneumoccal bug ( which can cause chest and ear infections and menningitus too) was told by consultant to always get him treated by g.p if poorly.
Today they seemed better, no headache and temp is only a bit up. doctors is shut till monday so thought i would see how they were then.
am i doing the right thing? would they have got obviously worse if it was a chest infection or something?
i am such a worrier, i am doing my own head in!

If they have no temperature now I would treat the chesty cough with Vicks. You can always go to A+E if you get more worried over the night. If they stay the same till Monday, I think it is fine for you to wait until then to go Drs. Plus at that age, they can tell you how they are feeling and if they feel worse. Hope they are both feeling better soon.

thanx, they still have a bit of a temperature but i have known it to be higher.

Are they eating?

DS had a chest infection a couple of years ago, I didn't realise it had gone to his chest but the Dr said he must be feeling awful. I would take them both to the Drs on Monday even if they didn't have a very high temperature. Can't chest infections develop into something else? (don't mean to worry you its just that DS is also a bit chesty and has been for the past 3 weeks)

Sorry for hijack but I am really worried about both of my boys-DS2 has had a cough and a chest infection for nearly 5 weeks-two trips to quacks-almost finished second lot of antibiotics and still coughing for England.
DS1 also had an awful cough on and off for weeks now-was told he had an upper throat virus which was causing him to cough-his chest is clear-he gets very ill with his cough to the point where I thought he may be asthmatic but the Dr doesn't think he is.I just want them both to be clear of coughs and colds-any way I can boost their immune system to fight these nasties??

I was recommended giving my kids Abidec vitamins. The Dr can prescribe it for kids that are constantly getting infection after infection or you can buy it yourself. (Tesco sell it)

Will look out for those-Thanks-ds1's diet is pretty crap at the mo as refuses to eat meat and fish-loves veg thoughbut just feel he must be missing out on something.

Hi, Just finished 10 weeks of colds, coughs, chest and throat infections of ds1 (2) and ds2 (10 months). I got so fed up (as I'm sure they did too) that I went and got some powdered vit c, echinacea and acidophillus - the vit c and acidophillus is both powder and I stir 1/4 tsp of each into food for ds1 and half that amount for ds2. Echinacea is one drop per year about 3-4 times a day. Touch wood they now seem relatively clear of bugs, just a bit snotty.
