My stomach has been hurting for two days. I'm going to the loo normally (sorry if TMI), I do get heartburn so I am used to Rennies doing the trick but this just won't shift. It's high up, just under my breast bone and spreading round to my lower back as well. Please can anyone suggest anything, this is miserable and I'm going on holiday in a couple of days. I'm fine otherwise so I really don't think it is anything else.
Thanks.

Next step up from Rennies would be ranitidine (aka Zantac, though I buy generic stuff online).

DO go to GP though, because you could be storing up some gall bladder problems there - if not before your holiday, at least afterwards.

Schroeder is correct. ASDA own brand tablets worked bloody wonders and taste like sweets.

You can get something called Kolatinticon Gel from the chemist (behind counter but not prescription). Really good for heartburn, nausea IBS etc. And about £5 for a big bottle.

Kolanticon

Oh you stars, thank you! If I can't get the repeat prescription (it definitely wasn't an antibiotic) in time - which is quite likely then I will go armed with a list to the pharmacist. Unfortunately no Asda near me so that isn't an option.
Elibean - definitely no gall bladder complications as I had mine out a few years ago after I developed pancreatitis from a stray gall stone (now that did hurt!)

Just out of curiosity do you smoke? it's just when I have the odd ciggy mine flares up.

rockinhippy · 20/07/2011 23:20

just incase its not already been mentioned (haven;t the head/eyes to read allBlush - DO make sure you get it checked out when you get back - you could have Heliobactor Pylori - its common & under diagnosed & causes heartburn & if un treat can cause all sorts of problems - including sore throats, night coughing etc on top of horrendous heartburn

treatment is double high dose anti b's & the likes of omiprozole together - I had it for years without knowing - new GP diagnosed it & treatment has made a huge difference :)

HoneyDuke · 20/07/2011 23:32

I think you should go to the Gp, last thing you want is to come down with something acute on holiday.

Imnotaslimjim · 20/07/2011 23:45

Add some lemon juice to your bicarby water, and get ready for some belches from your boots! I have gastritis and even though I'm on omeprazole for it I still get bad heartburn and this works magic for me every time! And polease do get it seen too.

Curiousmama · 22/07/2011 09:38

Sounds exactly like me when I had gallstones. Visit your GP!
