KK - don't go googling -you know it makes for more anxiety.
Smee- supper of halloumi sounds divine- I absolutely love it. First time I ate it I didn't know what it was .
Ds is pretty good during the long holidays- he is quite happy pottering about- I don't have to really organise things for him,but I do insist on us doing something every few days -even just a walk to town.
He likes drives and 'mystery tours'. We'll be going up to see MIL next week, which he will love (me not so much)
His prize was a certificate and an engraved pen !

Yeah Topsy! Grin Happy birthday junior topsy!

Hi Framey I am sorry you have to be here, but I am glad you found us....if you see what I mean Confused Did you get through to the consultant or BCN? Hope you mum is ok today, and your dad bearing up.

SR that was a very harsh and I think unnecessary comment by the osteo....I'll make you a Brew and slice of cake to calm you.....and kurri....yes you my dear step away from google it is not good for you!

Smee I am glad dh is back safe and sound.

My ds had a fanastic time on the outward bound thingy he did with school. They really made hima part of it, and me too, as I had to go so he could. Lovely lovely people and children. He is shattered today though, just about managing to pick up his feet, but only just. Grin You would think that would lead to early nights, but no just bickering with his sister.

SparkleRainbow · 26/07/2011 12:27

ok [embarassed] now, i still don't know what halloumi is?

MarianH · 26/07/2011 12:38

Halloumi is very nice cheese. Yum!

I am dashing in to say hello and hope that everyone is well. DD needed platelets - her rash was starting to spread - so we went into hospital first thing. So hopefully, now, we can get packed to go away. We've been very kindly given the use of a caravan from Saturday that is still reasonably close to hospital, so we are going to my mum's, then on to the caravan. It will just be me, DD and DS as DH is at work still. It will be lovely to get a 'break' (it can never be a proper rest whilst DS is on the rampage), although DD has to be back in hospital a week on thurs for Vincristine.

So, I hope everyone has a great couple of weeks and I will catch up properly when we get back. Now to write a huge list of things I have to take with me...

SparkleRainbow · 26/07/2011 12:43

Have a lovely time Marian, with no emergencies. I hope the weather is kind to you.

SparkleRainbow · 26/07/2011 12:45

Oo and thank you for telling me what Halloumi is. I am missing such nice things in my life. Grin

smee · 26/07/2011 12:46

Sparkle, Halloumi is usually Turkish or Cypriot, and is a mix of Goat and Sheep milk. It's hard and rubbery, so you slice it then fry or grill it. Perfect for veggie bbq. It's totally delicious. Go get.. Smile

Great that your DS managed to do the outward bound thing. His new school sounds terrific. Bet you were thrilled to get him back in one piece though.

Marion, have a great time in the caravan. Hope the sun shines for you.

Kurri, I'd be googling too, but you know that's the route to madness. When's the GP appointment? Hope it's soon and they can reassure you.

MAS, your DS sounds very sorted and self sufficient. I do like the sound of that. Must be a tricky age to gauge, as they think they're so grown up, but still need you lots.

Right, got to work. Been very lax of late and DH has taken DS out, so no excuses..

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/07/2011 12:58

grilled halloumi squeaks when you bite it !
Have a very lovely time away Marian and lots of good wishes for dd.
I think because ds is an only he has learned to be quite content in his own company - he's a funny mixture of grumpy and then very loving and affectionate.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 26/07/2011 13:18

Have a lovely time Marian, and enjoy your break Smile

Outward bound trip sound like great fun Sparkle - so glad DS had a good time.

Will done to DS for his prize MAS, - grumpy then affectionate sounds spot on for a teenager Grin

I've stepped away from the google. I've got to ring for an appointment after 2, but don't know when it will be, you usually have to wait about a week to see a specific doctor.

SparkleRainbow · 26/07/2011 13:31

I hope you don't have to wait too long Kurri. well done for leaving google. Have a Brew.

Smee I was very glad to see ds enjoying himself and being home safe at the end.

MAS I think the grumpy/affectionate stage is a rite of passage for a teenage boy. Sorry. Grin

KurriKurri · 26/07/2011 14:14

managed to get an appointment for Monday afternoon Smile - so not too long.

smee · 26/07/2011 16:25

That's good, Kurri. Not too long to wait. Smile

Grin at halloumi squeaking! Your DS sounds perfect, MAS though hopefully the grumpy moments aren't too frequent. My DS does the grumpy / affectionate mix pretty well already. Confused

FrameyMcFrame · 26/07/2011 17:06

Hi Sparkle, I chatted to BC nurse this morning and she explained a few things. Still waiting for the results of the Her2 tests and that will determine if she has chemo after her op or just radiotherapy. Hoping she will not need it. (obviously) She will have Letresol after the op which is similar to Tamoxifen apparently but more appropriate for post menopausal people. So more waiting and seeing to do but she's quite positive and happy. We're putting our holiday plans on hold until we know what's happening as we were planning to go up to the caravan for a week, (just me Mum and kids) as DP has no holiday left now. Mum has a cottage booked for October on Isla i n Scotland so hopefully she will be well enough fir that. She goes every year on her own for a week to watch the seabirds :)

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/07/2011 17:23

fingers crossed for your mum Framey- let's hope she will just need radiotherapy-then she will certainly be fine and dandy for her holiday in Scotland- watching the birds sounds lovely.
Am very glad you aren't waiting too long KK -fingers crossed for that.

SparkleRainbow · 26/07/2011 17:49

I am glad you have a bit more information Framey. Did you get an answer to the different descriptions of the tumour size, or have you just left that one for now, which may be for the best?

Kurri I am glad you don't to wait too long to see the gp.

School disco for ds this evening, so off to help him choose some appropriate clothes!

amberlight · 26/07/2011 17:56

Apols for not having brain to read other messages right now - back from consultant, they will do the final chemo at full dose on 8 August but they think the heart problems are because of the fluid retention so are adding in diuretics. Then operation on 6 September it seems. All seems very daunting and somehow wasn't expecting operation to be that soon. Tired. Tiredy tired.
Brew

SparkleRainbow · 26/07/2011 18:03

How is your fluid retention? Get those feet up now and have a Brew

amberlight · 26/07/2011 18:56

Blimey, so I should! Thanks!

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/07/2011 19:26

we'll be here for you amber -try not to fret.

OP posts:
smee · 26/07/2011 19:55

Amber, not surprised you're daunted, you must be exhausted by 7 chemos. I only had 6, so I take my hat off to you. Soon be through to the other side though. Let us distract you through it all. Smile

Framey, that's good that you found out more. I've found through all this that knowledge is most definitely power. Hope she gets those results soon then, as at least then you can all plan the next few months.

Sparkle, I hope DS found suitable disco attire and has been practising his mean dance floor moves. If he's anything like mine, he'll be hot stuff in your living room, then stand and watch when he gets there. Grin

sandripples · 26/07/2011 22:21

Amber - you are doing so well and I know its really hard towards the last couple of chemo's - I was really knackered by that stage - but you will soon pick up so hang on in there.

Framey - your mum's holidays sound idyllic. I hope she'll be able to go - if she can't I'd suggest she books one for about 6 weeks after the end of treatment as its great to have something to look forward to. I just had little w/e's away during treatment, carefully timed to be in 'good' days.

KK I meant to say I was so sad reading about your father. When you describe him, it does make me think of my mother - its a difficult time for him and you.

Smee - we leave on Saturday so keep those tips coming. I'm looking forward to my trip now - can't wait in fact as work is so busy at the mo.

Everyone - good luck with summer holiday planning etc. I am not sure if its easier when they just need lots of friends and sand, or when they're 17 and 22 - don't get up till 1ish then spend the day with their partners.....DH and I get back at 7 after a long days at work - no dinner, cat not fed......think we might need to re-set a few ground-rules round here Grin

KK - I will think about you on MOnday. Its a bit much of your thyroid to muck about like this after everything else you've had to deal with.

topsyturner · 27/07/2011 07:57

Morning all .
Have been reading and catching up , just haven't had time to post .

amber - all the positive thoughts I have are winging their way to you .

Hope everybody else is having a good week and things are going smoothly for you all .

I am off for chemo shortly , so will speak to you all again later .

amberlight · 27/07/2011 08:07

Topsy, good luck for chemo today...

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/07/2011 09:29
