new thread here !

OP posts:
topsyturner · 16/07/2011 17:08

I found those Buff head thingies on the net last night smee
Are they tubes of fabric ?
They had some great patterns , and not at all Mystic Topsy Grin

Weather not quite as bad here as you are getting on the mainland .
Sunshine and showers .
Been shopping today for DC clothes .
For some reason all DDs clothes are developing holes in the backs .
Nothing to do with her propensity for sliding out of trees , shed roofs etc .......

KurriKurri · 16/07/2011 17:31

It is pouring down here, and quite chilly (quite pleasant if like me you are the hot flush queen Grin)
The clouds look as if someone has drawn a thick black line underneath them - most odd.

My face is very red and sore Sad - I will have to drape a chiffon scarf discretely over my face for Monday's photos Grin

Phoned my mum today, she still hasn't got her x-ray results for her knee (been waiting 2 weeks). My dad woke up in the night and decided to make himself a drink with some orange juice and the entire contents of a new jar of marmalade. Then tried it and didn't like it so left it for mum to discover int he morning. She leaves food and drink out for him each night (for his 'midnight feast'Grin) but he sometimes decides to make his own concoctions.

smee · 16/07/2011 18:59

Great you're back feeling better, Amber. If it makes you feel any better, we have a bijou garden, and I still can't cope with it...

Topsy, yes Buffs are just stretchy fabric. Very versatile though. What sort of colour scarves, etc are you into. I've got a fair few that need a new home, so can easily post. I loved it when the Autumn set in, as I could just wear beanie hats the whole time.

Kurri, that's not good - your face I mean. Have lost track, but what have they given you for it? Should it kick in soon? [hopeful] Your Dad's concoction's quite something. He must be determined on his midnight sallies. Must be unnerving for your mum though, not knowing what he'll do next.

Off to pour DS into bed, then a friend's coming later so I'll cook something. Not sure what time they'll turn up, but DH is still away, so it'll be good to have a bit of company. Smile

topsyturner · 16/07/2011 19:55

kk have you tried a dose of piriton ? I get psoriasis , and on the rare occasion I get it on my face , a dose of piriton helps me loads .

smee I was looking at some of the livlier patterns in the range . But then I started thinking , should I be going for something more discrete ?
And I would be very happy to rehome anything ! Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/07/2011 20:12

piriton sounds a good idea KK- horrid to have itchy face.
Am nicely numbed with Pimm's at my parents house -so can't feel any aches properly -!! Can't tell what menopausal I am- have started a period today after weeks and weeks of not having one - will def. ask BCN.
Topsy-buffs look nice and sporty and not all Gypsy Rose topsy - you'll look as though you're off ski-ing Grin

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 16/07/2011 20:12

topsy - I will try a piriton tonight - good idea Smile The GP has given me daktarin gold - which is an anti fungal cream (YUK) he said it's caused by fungus that normal lives on your skin quite happily, but gets out of control if you are run down or immune compromised.

It is very sore - I am wondering if I'm allergic to the cream, because it didn't start stinging and burning until I put the cream on Sad
DH says he can't really notice it, but I know he is lying.

The film sounds great Smee - I've only seen one 3D film (toy story) and it was really good. Is your DS very keen on dinosaurs? - my two were always fascinated by them.

Amber I'm glad you are feeling a bit brighter today. topsy if you ggogle 'chemo scarves' you can find good ideas for tying them in interesting ways, I also found a little soft cotton beanie type hat was good for keeping your head warm at night.

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/07/2011 20:13

bless your dad KK - I would think marmalade, especially thick cut would be a bit tricky to drink.

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 16/07/2011 20:17

Cheers MAS (I have a large glass or rose in my hand Grin)

Now I think about it, dad always used to drink his coffee with a spoonful of honey in it (he kept bees so there was always lots of honey) so perhaps that was going through his mind when he demolished the marmalade Smile

topsyturner · 16/07/2011 21:18

Grin at the thought of a nice hot cup of marmalade !
But bless your mum kk , I'm sure it's hard for her .

topsyturner · 17/07/2011 16:00

What a horrible day today .
Looks like a tropical storm has hit out there .
DH has just taken the dog out for his walk .
And I am planted firmly in front of the tv with a lemon drizzle cake Grin

Cuppa Brew anyone ?

KurriKurri · 17/07/2011 16:05

I thought you' never ask topsy Grin lemon drizzle? - I'm Envy

yes in is pouring down here too, and lots of flowers in the garden have been knocked down.

DH is insisting on watching the golf, and I am vaguely tidying the house so DS has somewhere to sleep wen he comes over tonight.

DD is getting nervous about her graduation - she's convinced she's gong to fall over when she goes up to collect her degree Smile

KurriKurri · 17/07/2011 16:05

going not gong Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/07/2011 16:25

oh bless her- is she quite shy ? it'll be a lovely happy day !
Lemon drizzle sounds yum- I'm just having a cup of green tea. Dh went for a walk to the park to look at the annual bus rally (in his anorak) and took a photo of the 27 bus of my youth !

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 17/07/2011 16:55

She tends to worry she'll make a fool of herself MAS, but I'm sure she'll be fine Smile

I bought some green tea with peppermint yesterday (which I think you recommended) and its very nice - I've been wanting to drink more GT but find the plain stuff too bitter.

Bus rally - I've never heard of one of those, Grin at anorak, - my DH would love a bus rally too.

topsyturner · 17/07/2011 16:58

Bus 27 ? A London red bus by any chance ?
Aaaah the memories .......

Here you go ladies , big slice each Grin

DH watching some kind of Gaelic (think a mixture of rugby and football with lots of thumping each other thrown in !) final on the box now .
DC watching something Potter-esque .
I have been relegated to the pooter , sigh , I will only shop .
Have already renewed the pig/dogs insurance .
Now feel the need to buy shoes Grin

smee · 17/07/2011 20:50

Rushes in, hoping not too late for the Lemon Drizzle. Been out all day in the rain. Almost monsoon like here. We stubbornly kept to our picnic plan, and ended up in the middle of a bandstand. Was rather lovely. The kids danced in the rain and I ate too much. Smile

I've been drinking Green Tea with peppermint too. It's lovely, so thank you MAS, you've converted me.

Kurri, it does sound like you're reacting to the cream. Can you nip back to GP? Or is it graduation tomorrow? If so, have a wondrous time. I'm betting you'll cry. Grin

Topsy, pm me your address and I'll have a rummage around for scarves and send them over. DS tied them all into bandanas round bears and other cuddly creatures, but I will rescue them. Grin Hope the puter lead you to some shoes. Smile

KurriKurri · 17/07/2011 20:56

No time to go to GP Smee - its tomorrow. I expect I will cry Grin
I am treating the skin problem by consuming wine!

Sounds like you had a good day despite the rain.

Hope you find some shoes topsy Smile

smee · 17/07/2011 22:43

Have a fantastic time, Kurri. What a milestone to celebrate. Remember we need photos. I'll do a sun dance in the morning for you. Grin

pinkstarlight · 17/07/2011 23:27

kuri..hope you have a fantastic day tomorrow, your going to be so proud.

been a miserable day here raining on and off all day, settled this afternoon a watched 3 hours worth of cathleen cooksons "the moth" really enjoyed it.i have also taking up knitting again after a number of years and im in the process of knitting myself a wrapover cardigan.

not very happy tonight over the last couple of weeks all my nails have gone really thick and cream coloured not noticable with nail varnish on but its just dawned on me one has become really loose and i keep catching it,my nail is going to fall off worried there all going to fall off ahhhhh gutted.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/07/2011 07:30

poor pink- loose nails sound upsettingSad
KK - have a wonderful day !!
Topsy- did you get shoes ? Grin !
Miserable raion nearly all day- dh only went to the bus rally for some air though I did want him to look for my bus -and yes,a red London bus ! The place is full of proper anoraked fantatics .
So happy you like the green tea with mint - it does make it less bitter -I never leave the bag in for long either.
Have done as much as I can with the website job-they now present it to the client,so fingers crossed. Will then have to revise/do the real drawings I guess.
Ds has activities week at school- this year he's doing film making.
Have lovely days everyone

SparkleRainbow · 18/07/2011 11:23

So much rain here, but my veggies can finally start growing. Wet dogs, wet cat, and very wet chickens! I am trying to potty train dd2, she has had dry nappies the last two nights, and she did her first wee on the potty this morning when she woke up, and a couple on the sitting room carpet this morning. Trying to be smiley and sing-songy Grin

Pink I am sorry about your finger nails Sad
Kurri I am hoping for a fab day for you all, and a break in the rain.
Smee - very british of you to carry on with the picnic despite the rain.
Topsy- big hugs hope you are doing ok today.
Cakes and amber Hope you have good days today Smile

cakesandale · 18/07/2011 11:27

Hope the rain stays off for KK's dd's graduation. What a horrible summer it has been so far. And after all the talk of a hot, rain-free summer. What absolute rot.

Pink - the ails ting does sound horrid. I think smee had a few loose nails. Sounds absolutely horrid to deal with.

Hi to all, glad you are all being so busy. I am not ignoring anyone, but our broadband has started to fall over and i haven't been able to get here much.

I was able to manage a weekend without groping anyone, thank you - I had quite a nice sedate time. Don't know why I bothered though - today I feel nauseous and headachy. Great.

smee · 18/07/2011 11:33

Cakes, sedate is a bit dull. We depend on you for salacious intrigue.. Grin

Pink, nails going is a bit grim. I doubt there's much you can do, but strangely it doesn't hurt - or at least mine didn't. I had plasters over mine until they returned and nobody noticed.

Grey and dull here, but still dry. Not sure it'll last though. Am a bit miffed as haven't watched The Apprentice final yet, and was determined not to find out, but who won's on the top of the paper this morning. Hmm

cakesandale · 18/07/2011 11:47

Hi smee

How annnoying to have the suspense broken for you. It was a good final though - I love the interviews, the interviewers are so bloody rude Grin

smee · 18/07/2011 11:57

I am going to watch tonight, Cakes. Will enjoy it am sure. The interviews are always fantastically abusive. I can never understand why the candidates don't laugh. And Margaret's one isn't she? Always worth watching when she's on. Smile
