Made an appointment to see doctor tomorrow.

I have a somewhat lumpy breasts, in a past docs sent me for ultrasound a couple of times, each time it turned out to be either a lymph node that was positioned unusually low or last time 2 inflamed nodes....anyhow I had felt two small lumps on the side of breast for some time, but as they were small and smooth and movable and I had an ultrasound only 18 months ago I thought I'll just wait and see Hmm

So last night I found one one the inside of the breast iyswim, doesn't move much and seems irregular. Doesn't have anything similar on the other breast.

I'm 31. I know no one can diagnose on the net, just need some hand holding.

When I had my first visit to the clinic I stared fixedly at the wall opposite and composed a shopping list in my head whilst the consultant peered at me and then drew circles in biro on where a biopsy would be taken from. The nurses were peed off with him for not using the proper, washable marker pen!

The nurses are usually fab, and really hold your hand both physically and mentally. Friday's not long to go so hopefully you'll be able to have a more restful w/end.

the breast care nurses are generally fab -I'll second that ! Well done winny- hang on in there. I have now had many breast examinations yet am a complete wreck at the thought of undressing and being looked at - as for smears, eeeee.

winny
hope all goes well - try not to worry x

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/06/2011 15:16

ah,you are in Paris - I suppose they have breast care nurses too ?

winnybella · 28/06/2011 15:20

Thanks, sharbie Smile

No clue, MaryAnn. AFAIK you just go to see your doctor or gynea, they send you for a scan (you choose your own place and book the appointment), you go for a scan...I asked the doctor re:biopsies and he said the scan people tend to send people back to the doctor before doing the biopsy Confused. And what happens when you're diagnosed with cancer- don't know. Presumably you go under the care of an oncologist at the hospital?

But no, I've never heard of breast care nurses.

Oh, and when I said "very odd' few posts up I meant odd that a doctor would be a bit worried about seeing a breast, not that his practice is in Marais, obv.

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/06/2011 15:26

perhaps he sees lots of willies

winnybella · 28/06/2011 15:29

Yeah, he saw DP's few months ago when it had sustained a traumatic injury oops

Jesus, it's hot here, storms hurry up!

Hope Fab's ok.

Good luck, Winny.

Storms been here, imagine over the Channel as I type! My aunt (Parisienne) had BC a couple of years ago, was very well looked after. I think medicine in Paris is usually very good - my sil (also French) has lumpy boobs and bc in her family, and is also always very well looked after. So you are probably in good hands - if you should need them. Hopefully you won't, and will be stuck with the inexperienced hands of the willy doc Smile

Elibean · 28/06/2011 15:48

How'd it go, FAB? Thinking of you tooxx

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/06/2011 17:26

yes,hope it was ok FAB

TheOriginalFAB · 28/06/2011 18:46

Hi everyone, thanks for your good wishes and sorry for the delay in replying. I came home and just cleaned the whole day away, trying to keep busy.

The upshot is he couldn't feel a lump (not news as neither can I) but I have to have a scan as it isn't in both breasts or linked to my periods.

I had booked a double appointment so also asked him about the drugs I am on and the constant exhaustion and he has told me to take tablets every night for 2 weeks in the hope that helps.

Winny - hope you don't have to wait too long and I am not more important. We all have equal importantness! (That may be a made up word[hmm)

winnybella · 28/06/2011 19:02

Good news about lack of lump, Fab Smile So when will you have the scan?

I meant my moaning/catastrophising is not important.

OP posts:
TheOriginalFAB · 28/06/2011 19:10

I have no idea when I will have the scan. The GP said I have to go through the breast clinic to get the scan.

winnybella · 28/06/2011 23:12

Oh, ok. Are you going to make an appointment then? Otoh I imagine if didn't feel a lump or thickening it should be ok, but perhaps it's better to make sure Confused Hope the new drugs work for your exhaustion.

Elibean · 29/06/2011 12:28

How are you doing, Winny? Did the storm come and go? Some hang-in-till-vendredi-vibes de Londres for you Smile

TheOriginalFAB · 29/06/2011 12:57

The GP will contact the breast care clinic for me.

winnybella · 29/06/2011 13:25

I'm ok, thanks, Elibean. No storms, they were active all around Paris, but nothing here. Temperature went down in a dramatic fashion, though, low twenties today.

Will update on Friday.

Sooo...I had the scan, all is well, got some calcification, some tiny cysts, the lump I felt is apparently a mammary gland and also I have moderate umm...not dysplasia, sorry trying to remember and translating from French...yes, something to do with fibers etc.And two lymph nodes that seem to be permanently inflamed but have shrunk since the scan I had 2 years ago. I know all this from the notes as the doc said all is fine.

But I wonder how the hell are we supposed to know when something is wrong? I have so many lumps in my breasts it's hard to remember them all plus I imagine some of them are reabsorbed by the body, some new ones appear etc...Should I have a scan every single time I feel something new?

Thank you all for your support Smile

Only just seen this but glad all is ok winny :)

Thinking of you too fab x

Elibean · 02/07/2011 10:40

Hurrah, Winny! Happy celebrating (and don't worry about remembering all the lumps, just keep getting them checked out as and when - let the docs worry!) Smile

ggirl · 02/07/2011 12:48

glad the scan went well winny

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/07/2011 12:55

excellent news !!

issynoko · 02/07/2011 12:59

Always check when you have a worry - success rate for breast cancer treatment so so much better than it was - and the earlier the better. My midwife, who's in her 50s. was going off for a scan the other day. She said she has lumpy breasts and is ALWAYS recalled so she doesn't worry now because it happens so often. She makes sure she goes for all tests though, just in case. She said to me, 'You've got very fibrous breasts so when you have regular mammographs they'll always be recalling you too I bet" She said she gets 'water lumps'. Anyway - glad you're fine. Have a lovely weekend.
