Phew! Well that's THAT scare over and done with. Hope the suspicions didn't get out of hand and cause too much upset.

Are you still having symptoms?

Do you think all this could be caused by stress and panic attacks?

only ever took these for about a week, as I then found out I was PG, so the GP took me off them!!! I didn't have any side effects on starting them (think the nausea was due to being 5 weeks PG, not the tablets!!). You might have a few side effects for up to two weeks after starting them (feeling anxious/off your food/slightly dodgy tummy/that sort of thing) but they should go once your body is used to them. They will probably take at least 2 weeks to start working (they don't work straightaway).

Also for the claustrophobia/anxiety, try slowing your breathing down, as hyperventilating can make you more anxious - either cup your hands in front of your mouth and breathe into them, to stop you hyperventilating, or do the sort of breathing exercises you do for labour)

For the bladder problems, you are best off avoiding alcohol and caffeine (like blu says they are diuretics, and caffeine irritates your bladder), and make sure you drink plenty (if you don't drink enough that can also irritate your bladder). Also get a referral to physio - and do your pelvic floor exercies in meantime)

Hi I was on citalopram for a few months when I was pregnant, and to be honest I stoppped because I didn't really need them, I wasn't depressed just going through a rough time. The side effect I remember vividly was for the first week or so having a really dry mouth, so keep a bottle of water and some gum with you, it doesn't sound like a big deal but having a dry mouth is horrible! I hope it all works out ok for you x

nikcola · 14/12/2005 23:38

ok been taking tabs for 2 weeks now, no side affects thank god but the panic atttracks are getting really bad so bad i dont want to leave the house today was really bad....

today was dd's x mas carol concert at nursey at 10.30am so i dropped her off at nursery at 9am then went back at 10.20am for the carols i felt ok was prepared but felt sort of calm, i stepped in to the hall there was about 20 people in there so i got a seat then i started to swaet and shake my heart was pounding so i fanned my face with paper and tryed breathing exercises,

then it got worse so i went a sat in the loo for 5 mins then i came back even more poeple where in there,

so i sat back down and it got so bad my eyes went black i couldnt see properlly so i rushed out in to the loo sat down and blackedout i couldnt control it im so embarresd emagine if id have faitnted infront of dd

i watched out side from the door, what the hell is wrong with me why arent tabs working im too scared to go out now

get yourself back to the docs Nik, that doesn't sound right, and sounds like the tablets are making the panic attacks worse if anything I have never had a severe panic attack, but wouldn't have thought it was normal to faint.

nikcola · 14/12/2005 23:42

the doc said to me not to worry about fainting cause that the worse that can happen i said thats pretty bad and he said well you havent got a life threaterning condition [anrgy]

OP posts:
nikcola · 14/12/2005 23:43

i cant take it no more i dont want to go antwhere i dont even want to take dd to school tomoorw , i just want it to go away , dp thinks its all in my head

OP posts:
feastofsteven · 14/12/2005 23:45

nik you need to see another doctor. You sound like you are feeling far worse now, since you've been on the tabs, than before you started them.

nikcola · 14/12/2005 23:46

i just feel like they wont take me seriously as its not a medical conditon x

OP posts:
feastofsteven · 14/12/2005 23:50

go see another doc that's more sympathetic. Just because something is in the mind doesn't mean it's not a medical matter, and therefore of no interest to the docs. what's concerning me is that you sounded okish before starting the tabs, but after 2 weeks on the tabs you sound worse than when you started!

feastofsteven · 14/12/2005 23:50

or if you go and see the nurse that you mentioned in your first post, as she sounded OK.

feastofsteven · 14/12/2005 23:53

and there's some self-help info here about dealing with panic attacks:-
