Trefusis, thank you for prompt advice,I kind of feel my weight loss is abit like a bride to be losing loads of weight before wedding day,no i am not in process of getting married! I am 5ft 11in 10 stone 4lb and BMI19.Maybe its stress after all?! It really is quite difficult talking about this when most people are on diets to lose weight.

Definitely worth asking for a thyroid function test - it could be over-active thyroid, and the only way you'll know for sure is to have the blood tests done.

Do you have any other symptoms? They include:

feeling nervous, irritable or emotional,
shaking
sleeping poorly
being intolerant of heat and sweating more than usual
feeling tired and having weak muscles
increased heart rate or palpitations
more frequent bowel movements or diarrhoea
shortness of breath, especially when exercising
loss of hair or finer hair than usual

WigWamBam,

YES to;Irritable,Knackered(went to bed at 1230pm so Daddy had to do babes lunch!)going to loo more, feeling cold particularly hands and feet.
Also went to donate blood last week but couldnt due to low iron (although i do eat heaps of broccoli, the nurse suggested red wine)
So looks like possible thyroid, thankyou for reading this ramble!

I developed post partum thyroiditis after last baby. Had several of the symptoms listed below, including weight loss and too hot all the time. I was over active for a while, then it swung to underactive. I now have it for life. Once its diagnosed and treated its no big deal . You are on tablets for life and have to get a blood test every so often.

Your Gp shoudl be able to do the blood tests for you asap. They shoudl test T3, free T4 and TSH. If they are not normal they should refer you to a consultant endocrinologist at the hospital. They will give you the tablets and gradually up the dose until your blood results are normal. Then you will feel much better. Afraid it takes a few montsh tho.

Afraid i dont understand why you are seing a dietician? If you are eating normally and losing lots of weight it must be a medical problem, which a dietician can't fix. Or am I missing soemthing????

WigWamBam · 21/11/2005 21:10

notasheep, I still think you should be getting blood tests done. I can't see that a dietician is going to be much help to you, to be honest.
