MRI on Knee

just back from consultant , thinks iv

poserior horn of lateral menisus....

and requested i hava MRI to confirm , anyone els similar or had mri , not sure what to expect ..

MRI is easy. But noisy. They give you heavy duty headphones and a radio channel to drown out the noise and some places let you bring a cd to listen to. If just a knee only your legs go in to the tunnel so it's no bother but you have to lie very, very still.

do u know how long it takes ...

got visions of dark tunnel and having to be still for a long time ...

there is a posterior horn of the meniscus, do they suspect a tear?

I had an MRI on my knee many years ago.

IIRC when you are in the 'tunnel' bit your head is about level with the end of the tunnel so you're not completely inside IYSWIM.

Like puzzlepetal said its noisy and you do have to be still but its fine.

I think I had one done with my leg straight and one with it bent over a foam wedge

thanks , not sure about tare ? but wrote down horn? he could have said tare , i was a little confused with all the words , but the above i said he wrote down on card for me ...

tare or horn , r they same or worse ....

the posterior horn is just a part of the meniscus, we all have that.
a tear of it could mean it's torn a bit or a piece has torn off and could be floating around in your knee.
depending on how bad the tear is will affect whether they need do an arthroscopy to tidy up the tear or remove the floaty bits.
is you knee locking or giving way?

Think it takes about 20 minutes. Very noisy and you aren't allowed to wear any metal including glasses.

he showed me on computer pictures of knee and stuff ,

put his fists together saying that when they rum together u can sometimes get inflamation and poss fluid around the area where the joints rub ..

doesnt give way or lock he asked me that to ...
did lots of pulling etc on joints ...

the pan i get is left knee just on outer side of knee , and toward back of knee where it bends toward left outer knee , with pressure its unbearable ..

i took up running the last 7 months increasing distance and this has been niggling me for some time had physio when really bad rested etc , but got worse ....so started the road to find out whats up so here i am ...

sounds like they are looking for any tear or roughened or squashed bits on the meniscus (the moonshap disc of cartilage) that could be giving you pain/swelling.

yea could be ...thats what he thinks , then said wants to be sure then that will determine treatment , he mentioned injections ?

sounds like he knows what he's doing. get the MRI and take it from there.

thanks , yea i felt like im getting somewhere today ...been weeks of , docs fobbing it off .... so glad iv taken further ...

Sounds like me but mine is the right knee and also done through running I've a tear (can't remember all the medical words, should pay more attention ).

My consultant wasn't keen to operate as day to day it doesn't cause me any issues. Also I'm self employed so couldn't afford the time off for recovery. I had the steroid injection which was great, although temporary. I find that physio and careful stretching before and after running really helps.

I can't walk for long in heels anymore and I suppose I'll never run a marathon.

interesting similar stories ...i to run , well not right now and thats when i get the pain at its worst , eases off if i dont run totally ...

and yes when i wear long high boots by end of night i can feel niggle there to ...

such a pain ...hope to get some answers once i had MRI , did you have one ?

im booken in for 1 10k event , and a 10 mile run later in year .. have to see i guess ..

can't help with the knee injury, but I have recently had an mri - nothing to worry about, its a bit noisy but they give you headphones with music on the drown it out a bit. You will be in a tunnel but its open at the end so you can see out. It takes about 30 minutes and they also give you a button you can press if you need them to come in to you. Its really not too bad.

Hope they can get you sorted and fix your knee soon.
