Problem pooing (me, not dd) - probably TMI

Regular poster, changed my name because I'm too embarrassed to post as myself.

I can't poo! I have been struggling for a week. I'm not constipated as such in that the poo is soft, and it's there in my bottom, I just can't get it out. I can only pass a small piece at a time, and it's really painful. And because I'm not emptying myself properly it's really uncomfortable.

I have tried Senakot, Dulcolax, prunes, I eat stacks of fruit and veg anyway and drink lots of water, I called the doctor in desparation yesterday and he told me to get some glycerine suppositories, I tried them yesterday and again this morning but no joy.

I'm so uncomfortable - I need a miracle cure!

Hot neat orange squash Yucky but my mum used to gice it to us and it works a treat Haven't tried it in years though

I am, bundle! I drink about 8 glasses of water a day and have been drinking even more this week. I'm awash with the stuff but it hasn't helped.

No, not pg - GP said that it can be caused by hormones but I'm not pg. It started the day my period did, which is why he thought hormones, but it's been going on for a week now.

Probiotics ? in either tablet and/or Actimel type drink or Activia yoghurt

Califig worked for DD. Took about 15 hours to 'get through', but once it did..........

I've got some lactulose for dd, but it's not the fact that it's hard, it's soft - I just can't push it out, if you get my drift.

What about castor oil ? Tastes rank but causes your sphincter (lovely) to spasm, encouraging the motion out.

I shall try the oil trick I think - it can't hurt. I don't have any castor oil in at the moment, could get hold of some this afternoon, I guess.

Mybe the massaging of the oil, has a similar effect to perineal massage ? Makes it more comfortable to pass

Might doing something physical work - touching your toes a lot, strenuous hoovering (I know, mad idea), running up and down stairs repeatedly?

Or eat a vindaloo.

docusate is the generic name for a drug which helps your bowel to push our poo..this is normally used in conjunction with lactulose (be careful wtih this, it's pure sugar so need to brush teeth) to help soften/move at the same time. I've only spoken to a paediatrician about this so not sure if used routinely with adults. primary cause of constipation in kids is lack of roughage/fluids, so diet normally tackled first.

Don't do curries Janh - even in desperation I couldn't touch a vindaloo! I don't do strenuous housework either, as dh would attest.

I'm off to raid the kitchen cupboard for some olive oil.

if you get this problem again, try Colon Care plus by holland and barrett. It is Psyllium husk, you have to drink lots of water always with it but over a period of time it has changed my life!
