2nd smear showing borderline changes

I had a smear 6 months ago which showed borderline changes and they said have another in 6 months to see if they have gone back. Well I've had the 2nd test and they haven't gone back. So surely they should do something about it now??? How long do they let you go just having 6 month checks before they actually worry??

This happened to me I had 2 borderline ones then I had to go back again after 6 months and that one was ok, had it been borderline then they would have referred me to the hospital, they sent me a letter telling me. Haven't they sent you that info? So overall I was waiting/worrying for 18minths plus dh and I couldn't try for a baby which was crap as I'm later 30s we've been trying 6months now, so I feel a bit urgh about it all, but they say they leave it as your body can fix itself, which I guess/hope mine did x

Hi ladies

I have had borderline changes for the past 10 years or so and decided in the end that I was going to have a baby anyway. I now have two babies and today got another borderline change.

What does all this mean?

What was the outcome for you both?

I had 3 borderline changes results (6 months between each one) and was referred to the hospital gynocology after the last one. I was told the reason they leave it for a while is that the cells are very slow to change so takes quite a while before it becomes anything more sinister. Also, as another poster said sometimes your body can fix itself. I wasnt told at any point that I couldnt try for a baby but I did mention it to the hospital staff that we were thinking of starting a family soon and they just said that they would see me in another 6 months time, and if I was pregnant then they would wait until after I've had the baby. My son is now 9 weeks old and I've just received a reminder letter.

NHS Cervical screening programme info
If you are worried then suggest you discuss with your GP. If you have had 3 borderline changes in under 10 years then in most areas you would be offered an investigation - colposcopy.
