There can be a lot of reasons for swelling of her right hippocampus (which is pne parft of the memory network of the brain). Is she having seizures? I am not a neurologist but I do know that sleep deprivation can be used to medically simulate seizures to measure how the right hippocampus is functioning. It will be fine, the test is noit invasive or painful, it is one way to see how that part of the brain is working. If you or your friend have any questions, right down a big list and take them to the consultant before the scan and afterwards. One step at a time
