brand new shiny thread....our tenth !

SR, am glad DS is far too young to FB then, as I don't get those requests, phew. Fear not, as I don't think we'll defect. I like it here and think it's important for anybody newly diagnosed too.

Glad to hear PG has an exit date. How's he taken it? Or have you even told him yet?!

Hope your DD is okay. How lovely that she called you though, even if it was distressing. I'd never have called my mother. Finals are incredibly stressful though - I remember losing a fair bit of weight doing mine.

Happy weekend to one and all then. Hope all those on treatment aren't feeling too bad. Pink, will be thinking of you on Monday (how come it's on a Bank Holiday?!). I've lost track, but must be others about to have another round too. LGF, LJ..? Come tell us you're okay when you can. x

KurriKurri · 27/05/2011 20:46

Don't worry SR, - I'm not on FB, so I'm hoping everyone will stay here as well Smile - I'll look into it though. - I haven't got a clue how to do it.

Your poor DD, it is very stressful doing finals but I'm sure a supportive chat will have helped. I remember when I was doing mine, I was so nervous. But she can only do her best on the day, - I'm sure she will be fine. My DD has finished now but was in a flap trying to get everything done for the deadline. You so want them to do well don't you?

I'm glad PG has an leaving date - I think I would be climbing the walls by now, guests are lovely - as long as they leave eventually Grin

Your children are proper smallholders by the sound of it Sparkle, - my sister has a farm and her DD's were always very matter of fact about these sort of things.

My DD went shopping today (to get herself some books as a treat) and she said a group of youths came up to her as she was waiting for the bus, and pulled her hair really hard Shock Confused and Angry - how horrible. Good job I wasn't there I'd have whopped them one.

DH is reluctant to deal with the possible the hornet invasion "I'm not going into a loft full of hornets, are you mad?" - wimp Grin

Good luck for Monday Pink.

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/05/2011 21:08

oh no- poor dd KK - how awful - I'd've given them a good kicking -no one hurts our babies.
No we won't all disappear- it's a bit exhausting though, hopping from one thing to the other, but this thread is the most important.
am also pleased to hear that PG is going to be leaving SR - you are amazing to have been so accomodating- I would be a complete wreck by now !
Hornets sound very scary.

facebook girls- have taken the liberty of adding my friend Jane to the group- she was diagnosed a year before me -similar dx and treatment, and on tamoxifen until switched to arimidex,I think- anyway- she is lovely. I have known her since I was in my twenties.

smee.. omg you lost 2 nails the very thought leaves me cold and the doctor today tried to reasure me its very rare.sounds terribly painfull.

kurri..the blood situation is annoying twice now they have told me its to low to go ahead with chemo then changed their minds.

sparkles...love your pics your chicks are just so cute, sad that you lost some though.

sands...your poor daughter im sure you made her feel loads better and i bet her exam will go much better than she thinks.i know its upsetting when they ring home in tears my daughter was terribly homesick when she first went to uni.my daughter has a exam next week i dont expect tears but she will be as moody as hell which means everything i say to reasure her will be wrong lol.so glad you have got your house guest sorted.

pinkstarlight · 27/05/2011 22:39

smee..you got me worried then just had to check and thinking about it they did say see you on monday.i can only guess its because they are so busy.

kurri..oh your poor girl how horrible.

amberlight · 28/05/2011 08:15

Pink, make sure you ask for nail cooling - it stops half the problems with nails, according to the research. Same principle as scalp cooling works for a fair number of people to stop hair falling out (on some regimes). I'm doing it - will let you know if I'm one of the lucky ones...

Morning all! Brew available!

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/05/2011 08:56

morning pink -I'll join you in Brew

topsyturner · 28/05/2011 09:12

Morning All

Got a call from my surgeons secretary just before close of buisness yesterday .
I have been rebooked for this Thursday (2nd June)
Keep your fingers crossed for no more bumps please !

Thanks for the advise and links to the Macmillan site .
Am I alone in not wanting to know a huge amount ?
I am normally the most informed person I know , the one people come to and ask questions of .
But for some reason , I can't bring myself to look up anything on this bastard thing !

Hope you are all having a good bank holiday weekend .
It's a little damp here in Belfast (suprise , suprise) , but shows signs of brightening up .

DS gets his school admissions letter this morning , so we are on postie watch !

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/05/2011 11:20

hooray topsy- will keep everything crossed that all goes ahead on 2nd ! and for ds's school letter Smile
I am the opposite and google everything and search out information- I suppose it just makes me feel in control -but I know that Cakes doesn't like to know too much- everyone has different ways of handling this I think.
Dull here - no rain but cloudy- a whole bunch of my cousins (1st and 2nd or removed -I never know how it works) are due today- lunch at my parents.
Have a good weekend x

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 28/05/2011 12:21

Hooray for new date Topsy, fingers crossed - but I'm pretty sure they won't mess you around twice.

You aren't alone in not wanting too much info. Loads of people feel that way, - I didn't want to know anything - I even left a meeting with the breast surgeon in tears when he started putting statistics up on his computer screen. He was surprised but the BCN understood how I felt.

You might find it changes as you get further away from your DX, I do read quite a lot of info now, but I have a friend who was DX the same time who doesn't want to know. That's absolutely fine, you do whatever you are comfortable with, there's no rules saying you have to read up all about it Smile

Afternoon all, (joins everyone in a Brew). Dull and rainy here too, I've just been to pick up my repeat prescription and had a potter round the little town, browsed in second hand bookshop and bought myself 'Winter In Madrid' by C J Sansom for £1.

DH is steeling himself to deal with the hornets - he's bought some poisonous foam!

amberlight · 28/05/2011 12:32

For weeks I wouldn't go near a statistic and was quite convinced I'd cop it in a matter of months. Now I'm very keen on them because I know I feel calm enough to handle them. Found a brilliant calculator on the net that shows me my odds, and that cheered me up a lot.

sandripples · 28/05/2011 15:13

Topsy - I'm really glad you've got a new date and will get back on your treatment track. Fingers crossed there will be no further dealys - but this track does tend to have a fair few diversions along the way, unfortunately so you just have to take the diversions (Crewe, Chester, , York wherever) until you eventually get to the right destination.

KK - that's really rotten for your DD - I feel very Angry for you both. What yobbos.

Thank-you for all the support re my DD's exams. I know this w/e wil be awful for her - sent bath stuff yesterday and will send little parcels of very dark chcocolate tomorrow. One of the problems is her lack of study buddies - her best friend broke her back while ski-ing at Easter and has only just been allowed to sit up. So that friend is stuck in Northern ireland for the time being and will be given an agreatat (SP?) degree ie she won't sit the exams but will be deemed to have an honours degree. Another frined has gone down with asecond bout of RSI - this is serious as he's doing computer science - so he will get the same type of degree. Then DD's other close frineds graduated last year while she did her year in Hannover - so its a bit lonely.

On a brighter topic (and by the way I think the frieed from NI is lucky not to be paralysed although obviously she's still haveing a difficult time) I have been busy in the greenhouse. Have got toms and cucumbers all in growing containers of various sorts along each side and today I built frames for them, out of canes and string! A bit Heath Robinson but will be excellent! Must go and put more plants into the garden now. DH and PG are off on the boat.

I took one look at some stats once re BC and never went there again Grin
Vive l'ignorance - that's my motto.

sandripples · 28/05/2011 15:15

Sorry for the various mis-spellings of 'friend'!

smee · 28/05/2011 18:26

Hooray for Thursday, Topsy. I don't think they'd dare mess you around again either. I'm like MAS so google myself to distraction. All that you really need to know is they got it in time, so you're both treatable and curable. Smile Really hope DS got the school he wanted.

G'ah to those youths, Kurri. I'd want to go out and get them too. Browsing in bookshops sounds like my sort of afternoon. Smile

Pink, honestly, I know it sounds grim but if you're unlucky enough to lose a nail or two it's surprisingly pain free. If it's going to happen it won't be until you're at the end.

SR, when does your DD finish? Hope it's soon, she sounds exhausted by it all. What does she do then? Is she coming home?

Amber, how you feeling? Okay today I hope. Wishing everyone else well too.

I just got my stupidly curly hair cut short. Looks like a proper haircut of a slightly dodgy perm, but all in all none too bad. Grin

topsyturner · 28/05/2011 19:44

DS got his first choice grammar school !
We are very happy .
Although I think it must be a sign of what's to come , as the school sent a letter asking for £170 as our first years "voluntary contribution" !!!
Ah well , I am just greatful he got in .

smee · 28/05/2011 20:04

Shock at contributions. Is that even legal?! Hooray for little Topsy though. Must be a huge relief to know he got in. Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/05/2011 20:28

well done junior topsy- clever boy ! and lots of good thoughts to SR's dd.
Had a v nice day with my cousins- they didn't get to mum's for lunch until after 3 (lots of complications) but we had a good time. In all the kerfuffle which involved changing cars at one cousin's house the bag containing the t shirts for ds bought in the US and my Reese's peanut butter cup eggs got left behind but kind cousin is posting them - the t shirts are a fraction of the price there compared to here.
Am going to sew label with ds's name on his new rugby shirt- school gave him nearly brand new shorts and polo shirt-dh has ordered new football boots and friend is passing on trainers.
Love to all xx

amberlight · 28/05/2011 21:00

not feeling too bad today thanks. Hopefully this will mean a better day again tomorrow.
Voluntary contribution of how much?! Blimey! What for, Topsy? Very odd from them.

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/05/2011 21:11

hope so amber Smile

Me too amber Smile

pinkstarlight · 28/05/2011 22:25

topsy...so glad you now have a new date and its not long to wait.good news your son got your choice of school the £170 letter is a bit cheeky hope you dont get to many of those kind of letters. i avoid all statistics they scare me for me its something i would rather not know.

amber ..i will ask on monday im not to sure if they have any as when i asked the hospital doctor how i could protect my nails she just dismissed me by saying its very unlikely to happen.

smee...shows your hair is growing thats brilliant,i cant imagine how my hair will grow back as its naturally really curly anyway i have some terrible visions lol.

kurri...good luck to your hubby hes braver than me, make sure you hide somewhere.

sands..sounds a good motto to me.

mas...when i was first diagnosed i googled loads then really wished i hadnt.

had a lovely relaxing day did a bit of shopping with ds ate lunch out, pottered about this afternoon and set up my new solar lanterns in the garden and cooked sammon with lemon and dill sauce for dinner yummy.

sandripples · 29/05/2011 08:27

WEll done for little Topsy!

Smee, my DH has told PG that 18 June is the dead-line. I have also been present as a witness when this has been mentioned. I think he's going to try an pick fruit on the farsm in the south of England Sad it is all a bit dismal but I know I can't have him here much longer.

DD finishes a week on Tuesday. She'll come up here for a w/e due to a wedding but then mooch round in Cambrudge for a while as she's renitng a room in a house (ie WE are renting her a room) so she doesn't have to leave immediately as she would if staying in college.

I do feel a bit down. But am going to beautiful Bodnant Gradens today so see an old friend so hope that will cheer me up. I've got reason to feel down (esp compared to last year) but PG, plus exams, plus knowing work is going to be tough for a month due to a colleague being on leave, and money being tight -- hm. Still, the garden's looking good and promoising...searching for good news here!

Off for a swim now - that usually helps.

Bon Courage to all those dealing with chemo and ops.

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/05/2011 08:58

SR - am sure garden trip and friend will be cheering - hope so- it's a tough time and you are a saint having PG for so long.
We are off to either Petworth or the wetlands in Arundel
