sorry- started to type the previous post then answered the phone (mum of my poor S with the broken arm- they aren't re-setting as it's healing itself -it was broken about 8 weeks ago apparently and her brother treading on it must've made it worse Sad She is feeling a bit confused and sad I think-friend and child- so will get her a little treat to cheer her up)
Hooray for birthday boy Smile
KK -sorry the flowers weren't for you, but sniff and admire them until your neighbour returns Grin
I bury my head in the sand about flushes as i am loathe to acknowledge them- but I do get hot spells - am always v hot in my bed, though am chilly when I get in.
I may attempt to bake a cake and bread today as cousins are visiting tomorrow

MAS, get three to a shop and buy theirs - much less effort, I find. There again, my baking skills are appalling... Blush and I have great admiration for those whose cakes are edible and look like the product they were making etc.

cakesandale · 27/05/2011 11:24

Poor little girl, MAS - good that it is healing well by itself, though. A treat would be nice for both, I bet her Mum feels awful for not noticing. If it's any consolation to her, I knew a girl when I was about 10 who ran in her school sports day with what later turned out to be two broken legs. She had some kind of brittle bones thing I think, so less surprising in her case, but still quite unusual. (She didn't win anything [ grin] )

Goodness knows how it happens, but I guess some breaks are pretty hard to spot. Bless them both.

KurriKurri · 27/05/2011 11:25

Poor little Great Tit Cakes - I hope he's alright. My parents live in a victorian house with fireplaces in all the bedrooms, we used to get baby birds (mostly starlings) falling down the chimney - so I would be woken up by a baby bird flapping round the room in a panic (and nervously pooing on everything!)

Definitely get the claustrophobia and panic feeling its horrible.
The other week I went to a BCC talk in the Assembly Rooms in town. They'd put us in a very small room and the chairs were really tightly packed. So there were about 40 menopausal women flapping leaflets in front of their faces like fans, and a few murmerings of 'I'm going to have to get out of here' Grin It was 'hot flush city' as my DD would say!

The door bell just rang and I panicked thinking the neighbour had come to collect my her flowers. But luckily it was only a chap selling a roof cleaning service Confused which I didn't buy Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/05/2011 11:27

the doctor apologised for not noticing as my friend had taken S with her arm when she originally fell over - but I think sometimes it's easy to miss compact things- I guess an x ray at the time would have helped, but these things happen.
I feel I should make my cake and bread-I do quite enjoy it but find the mess I make a challenge...of course I may regret this later today.

poor birds Sad Sometimes I hear noises in our chimney here (Victorian house) but they are blocked up because of Celeste's climbing activities- am worried in case there have been babies trapped with no way out

OP posts:
cakesandale · 27/05/2011 11:31

I like the mental picture I have of flapping middle aged ladies! Grin

Roof cleaning? Confused Some people just have too much money...

Compact fractures are v difficult, even with an x-ray sometimes. At least she is doing well.

Enjoy the baking - and the visit!

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/05/2011 11:43

thanks Cakes...

Oh thats Sad about the little girls arm MAS, do they think it has healed in a good position so it won't cause problems?

Hope you have a lovely visit with your cousins, - happy baking Smile

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/05/2011 12:25

it's healed more or less straight,so probably best to leave it alone I guess.

Poor girl and her mum, MAS. Definitely they deserve treats, though only another mother would recognise that. Smile

Amber, thanks for link. I try and think about my tumour, well thank god they got it in time. That's on a good day. Hmm How are you feeling?? Is the Brew helping?

Kurri, roof cleaning's new on me. Who on earth gets that done?

Cakes Sad about the tit. I love birds, but hate it when they get in. Something to do with all that flapping. Very distressing.

Happy Baking MAS. I have to ice and decorate birthday cake before 3.30..

cakesandale · 27/05/2011 12:36

smee I need to hear about how FB has helped you with freelance work. Do you mind if I pm you and ask some embarrassingly novice questions?

Good luck with the cake - hope you don't have to ice words, v. difficult....

smee · 27/05/2011 12:55

Cakes, ask away, but fwiw I've been freelance for years, so have worked for lots of different companies and met lots of different people, all of whom move around in a similar way. FB is a brilliant way of just keeping in touch with who's moving where and touching base from time to time. Also reminding people that you do still exist!

The way it works is if someone posts on their wall, you automatically see it. You don't have to respond or get involved, but it does keep you in the loop. Also lets you send a message just to that person so nobody else sees it. I was quite anti it, but actually it's been good and not invasive at all.

Come join me, MAS and Figgy. Smile

cakesandale · 27/05/2011 13:01

See, I can imagine that would help me. I have been freelance for five years, and have also worked for loads of people in lots of different sectors before that, so I can see that it would work for me too. It just seemed to me to be something that my mother in law messed about on and I didn't want to get involved in her keeping on contacting me and me having to ignore without causing offence. And I never seem to have anything interesting to say (as you know). I'll take a look - have never even done that Blush - and get back to you if i have any qs. Thanks.

SparkleRainbow · 27/05/2011 13:09

I am here, I have been lurking, really don't want to bring you down.

Have messaged you smee, and MAS with my facebook name, but don't know how to let you know how to find me.....? Blush am a luddite . Cakes I was invited to be a memebr of a connective tissues disorder group on facebook, it is completely private except to members who have to be invited, we could make a Tamox group, and then your MIL would never have to know Wink

amberlight · 27/05/2011 13:09

Hi Smee, painkillers are taking the edge off things, and the Brew is definitely helping, yes.

smee · 27/05/2011 13:10

Yeay, Sparkle's back! I will see if I can befriend you on FB somehow.. Confused

SparkleRainbow · 27/05/2011 13:12

Hi amber I'll make you a Brew, just putting kettle on

I will keep an eye out for you smee on fb

smee · 27/05/2011 13:16

worth keeping topping up the pain killers, Amber. I found that made a really difference. If you can't sleep because of the aches, go to GP and get something to help knock you out. The more tired you get, the more you ache.

We're out of tea. [sob]

SparkleRainbow · 27/05/2011 13:22

No, virtual tea is good, but doesn't reach all the spots! Pick some up on the school run........unless you are out of chocolate and Biscuit too in which case get to a shop fast.

cakesandale · 27/05/2011 13:23

Nooo..............

Being out of tea is a major tragedy in this house. Is there a shop nearby?

Welcome back, sparkles. I am so glad you are here, you won't bring us down. Stay. How are you feeling?

I can see I am going to have to get into this FB lark. I am writing an article now but will try to take a look over the weekend. I guess i would like to join you all over there with the way you describe it, it doesn't sound so bad.

Have just put out a line of washing. It's raining now. Angry

KurriKurri · 27/05/2011 13:26

hello Sparkle nice to see you - hope you like jammy dodgers Grin

I've just seen a large hornet go under the eaves and into our roof - I don't think that is a good thing. I will shove DH into the loft when he gets home to investigate (its better if I supervise Grin)

SparkleRainbow · 27/05/2011 13:27

I have a small housewife victory. I was about to wash the floor, and got distracted by fb and mn. Dogs just walked in with muddy feet, so feeling glad I but that off else I would be doing it again!

Small things.....small minds

Not enough superglue in the world to help me hold things together! Very low, failing at everything.

KurriKurri · 27/05/2011 13:28

My son and his GF keep nagging me to go on facebook but I've resisted so far (plus I might look a bit sad, as I wouldn't have enough friends Grin)

SparkleRainbow · 27/05/2011 13:28

put that off, not but that off......can't type either
