HELLP syndrome is a very serious maternal condition and the only treatment for this is delivery of the baby.

See here for more information:-

A very close frind of mine had HELLP with her first PG and delivered at 34 weeks. She went on to have 2 more and had to have early inductions with all of them.

They nearly lost her with the first baby. Scary stuff

my oousin had HELLP with her first baby earlier this year. sadly he was stillborn at 27 weeks .

I had that and my dt's were born at 37 weeks instead of the planned 38 weeks. I didn't realise it was serious until i was home and cottoned on to the fact that other people who have CS don't spend the first 24 hours afterwards in ICU!. Hope your friend and her babe are ok. I think it is to do with failing liver function

I had this with ds1 born at 32 weeks. It's all to do with blood, liver function etc. I had low platlets (sp) down to single figures and had to have a transfusion of the before c section (otherwise could have bleed and not stopped) I didn't realise how serious it was until afterwards. Like Milq said you don't usually go to ICU after a C Section.
The delivery of the child usually calms things down and they start to return to normal.
