Cracked hands that won't heal - any suggestions?

The index fingers on both my hands have been very dry, red and sore the past few weeks. I've been moisturising them loads each day but it hasn't helped. I've started putting hydrocoirtosone (sp?) on them (stolen borrowed from ds...ahem...), the rash/red part seems better but the cracked bits are still open and very sore on one hand. Any suggestions on what I can do? Seems a bit over the top to go to the doctors about it. Thanks.

If you're bleeding they shouldn't give steroids. Cotton gloves inside marigolds for ALL housework and castor oil should do the trick IMO &E

did you have an itchy rash that then went red and then cracked by any chance

Hemp hand cream from the body shop tried all creams and this worked for me.

Vaseline and cotton gloves at night, and use rubber gloves when washing up. Works for me and I had claws horribly dry hands.

I have found dermacream by medihoney works really well to calm milder things down. Expensive but seems to work.

Goodbye to cracked fingers and large open cracks around nails
make 10 thumb covers making sure to put a piece over the top so the nail covers are similar to the end of a glove. insert vaseline into the covers and I mean a lot of vaseline. Pop the finger covers over your 8 fingers and 2 thumbs, sealing around the end between the covers and your skin so that the vaseline won't seep out or the covers won't come off. Do this before you go to sleep. The morning after you won't believe how amazing your skin looks. Do this as often as required. This will close large cracks overnight.
