my mum has recently gone though the menopause, she developed a lump in her breast and saw the gp. he told her is was prob a fatty deposit and not to worry. she went for a mamogram and they told her all was clear.
afterwards the lump developed into a blister and became full of pus and blood. she went back to the gp and he gave her flucloxacillin, 5 days later it was getting worse so she went back and he gave her co-amoxiclav and co-codamol.
5 days later it was still no better so she went back and he referred her to the breast clinic at the hospital. they drained it and gave her more co-amoxiclav, but to her that it is very deep and will probably refill with pus and she should go back in 6 weeks for a check up.
yesterday she had a massive allergic reaction (on her skin) to the antibiotics and was rushed to hospital, they changed her to erythromycin and gave her steriod cream and doublebase for the skin reaction but no further word about the abcess which is still huge and leaking pus and blood.

my question is what should she do next. i have told her to go back to the breast clinic and ask them to wash it out properly. she is in agony and feels ill and dizzy because the pain is so bad she cannot sleep.

Go back to the breast clinic!!

They are specialists and will provide the best care.

I spent weeks going through A&E, drs etc with an abscess. It wasn't until I was referred to the clinic that the abscess was correctly treated.

It is dreadfully painful, so please send my regards. Not nice but it can be treated.
