Anyone else get ovulation pain?

A few months ago I got this funny pain in my lower abdomen for about a day, didn't think anything of it ... until it came back a few weeks later, then again a few weeks after that. When I realised it was every 28 days and always on my 14th day I googled it and came up with Mittelschmerz! I had never heard of it and none of my family or friends have experienced/heard of it either. How common/uncommon is it?

It's not uncommon; I think I read somewhere (but can't be bothered checking, sorry ) about 10% of us get Mittelschmerz. I used to, in my ovulating days. :)

Haha don't worry about it. Glad I'm not the only one though, feel like a spend most days now lurching round work clutching my middle!

Yes, used to be every month, lasting for perhaps 12 hours or so, sometimes it was quite sharp too. Quite useful when I was looking to conceive! Alas those days are fading, and to some extent the lack has been a marker of impending menopause.

I get this too, but it is more to one side level with my hip (it varies from month to month - it's been at the right side for the last two months). This makes it slightly painful to straighten my leg at the hip on the affected side, so I tend to end up limping around usually for about two days. I used to get really bad period pains, so this on top seemed really unfair! Now my period pains have pretty much disappeared (thanks to my mooncup) but there is nothing I can really do about the ovulation pains - I suppose it is useful though for knowing when ovulation takes place and knowing everything is working...

sometimes it hurts to sit down, all of my undercarriage is painful, radiating up to one side of my lower abdomen. Bloating too, dull aching, sharp stabbing.

Day 14 every month.

Found it purely by accident, like you i just noticed the pain, then again then again, so i wrote it down, and it was 14 days after end of period so i put it down to ovulation.

You would think that i could make a baby based on these pains wouldnt you? But 17 months on and still nothing.

I used to get it badly, for about fifteen years, lasting about 12 hours and having to lie down from the pain. My mum and her mum also had it.

Have not had it since becoming pregnant with DS.

Interesting there bigbumum, we had great difficulty TTC as well, wonder if it's related. Sending you good wishes for success.

Hi there, I get really bad ovulation pain - very sharp and painful accompanied by bloating. At one time I was worried it was endometriosis but the pain only occurs mid month. Most times I take ibuprofen which get rid of it but it's funny how some women never experience it at all. Wish I was one of them!

Hi. Another sufferer here. Just as you describe bigbumum. Very painful but thankfully only lasts a day at most.

I get it too, but weirdly it only started after DD1 was born. I find it painful too, just like period pain. It's been useful though, I knew when I was ovulating so I conceived quickly with DD2!

I get it too and before I was pg with DD it was dismissed by the docs as hormonal and they would do nothing. I too had the sitting down was agony thing and moving around in general was horrible. DD is 7 months old and I got my period back with the ovulation pain beforehand with my whole abdomen swelling up. Anyhoo, when i had my pg scans they found an ovarian cyst which explains a lot as I never had the problem when I was younger or when I was on the pill. As it has returned with a vengance I plan to ask for a referral to get the cyst looked at. Its always worth insisting on having it looked into and not to accept it as a woman's burden IMO.
