Endoscope tomorrow!

Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this procedure. I have an endoscope tomorrow to investigate my severe anaemia. My dh is worried about what they are going to find but I am more worried about the procedure!
I am sure that it will be fine - I have the choice of sedation or awake and I think I will choose awake.

take sedation really you wont remember it you can chose the level of sedation (i chose totally smashed ) also you wont gag when they do it and will make it quicker and less scary

Dh had one recently - said it was fine. He was awake but had something to numb his throat, and a drug to make him relax - which actually made him say some very strange things when he came back to recovery - it was very amusing to remind him of them afterwards when he could remeber nothing about the procedure or afterwards

Beabea · 09/11/2005 19:25

I had this a couple of years ago. I chose sedation but it really only kicked in after the procedure. I was talking utter gibberish afterwards. They normally spray your throat with stuff anyway. It didnt hurt. Just relax as much as possible as it will be over in no time. I would also choose no sedation should I have it again.

I cant say its the nicest thing in the world but its better than what my mum has had for the last 24hours. She had a tube inserted yesterday and removed today.

Good luck

Just re-read my original post - Why did I say that I chose awake? Must be going mad - I def chose sedation!
My brain is already muddled up and I haven't had any drugs yet!
Beabea - hope that your mum is okay.

well if u goin for sedation you have nothing to worry about just look forward to being looked after and beware when you eat something you will go back under a wee bit which is great.

Beabea · 09/11/2005 19:47

Me too - Im just waiting to hear how she is. She has had tones of this stuff done. She is very brave in my books.

ewww - I had one 10 years ago to check on a duodenal ulcer, it was unpleasant but the worst bit by far was the sedation. I had a bad reaction to it and cried hysterically for no reason afterwards for about an hour. Also felt dreadful whilst they were doing the procedure, totally out of control but unable to move or anything, I don't think sedation is for me.
I hope you get your anaemia sorted. Good luck.
